Overview
Compared to its fellow titans, Registeel possesses lower defense, making it an easier fight. Add to this the fact that many of its counters have huge advantages over its given movesets and it becomes clear that this is the easiest Regi to take down. That said, keep in mind that it can still hit very hard with its charged moves.
Approach
Team composition
-
Bring Mega Blaziken or Mega Charizard Y for your Mega Evolution, as they soar above the competition in terms of overall performance.
-
Terrakion is king, with Shadow Moltres, Reshiram, and Shadow Entei close behind.
-
Shadow Ho-oh is the optimal TDO counter, with Chandelure not far behind.
Battling strategy
-
Re-entering may be necessary; strong lineups won’t have to re-enter
-
Dodging is mostly unnecessary but may help.
Note: "Good" movesets are not necessarily viable at the level indicated.
Best Raid Boss Counters
Top Mega Evolution Counters

Counter | Blast Burn | Best |
Mega Blaziken is the DPS ruler for this raid, hitting exceptionally hard while resisting Registeel's Steel Type moves. In fact, Mega Blaziken is actually viable for the old "duo by only bringing a Mega Evolution" strategy while the weather is Clear, as its DPS is just barely short of being able to manage the Duo under normal circumstances. Not only that, it also provides its Mega Boost for Fire and Fighting Types alike, allowing it to boost your entire raid group assuming they're using optimal counters.
Use Counter under normal circumstances, and switch to Fire Spin when the weather is clear.

Fire Spin | Blast Burn | Best |
Mega Charizard Y is just a tiny bit behind Mega Blaziken, but to make up for that, it has longevity in spades! Thanks to its ability to resist Rock Smash and Focus Blast, it's an even safer bet for general raids. While it can't quite beat out the huge number of reasons to use Mega Blaziken, it's still an outstanding option for this raid.

You clicked the wrong button. Go back and pick the "Y" one.

Fire Fang | Flamethrower | Best |
While not as powerful as the big-name Fire Types, Mega Houndoom can still bring up the heat and hit hard. Just note that it will drop pretty quickly to Focus Blast due to its Fighting Type weakness!

Double Kick | Focus Blast | Best |
The once-and-former best Fighting Type Mega Evolution, Mega Lopunny still has a solid overall performance when not facing down Registeel's Fighting Type attacks.

Mud Shot | Earthquake | Best |
While a bit low on the charts compared to the other Mega Evolutions, Mega Swampert has the advantage of boosting Ground Type attacks while on the field. And while Ground is one of the less useful types for this raid due to the type's traditionally low performance, that's... something, I suppose.

Counter | Focus Blast | Best |
Mega Alakazam has great DPS behind it, and... that's it. It's fairly frail and doesn't have a useful Mega Evolution Type boost, so it's honestly best utilized if you lack other options.

Double Kick | Sacred Sword | Best |
Terrakion hits like an absolute truck in this raid, making Registeel wish that it had never awakened from its temple in Hoenn. However, it also has a lot to fear from Registeel thanks to its weaknesses to Fighting and Steel Type moves alike, so it can be a bit of a mixed bag. Regardless, it's still a top-priority!

Much like Mega Charizard Y, Shadow Moltres' high power and resistances to Steel and Fighting make it an optimal counter for this raid.

Fire Fang | Fusion Flare | Best |
Reshiram is a powerful counter for this raid, hitting very hard despite its lack of a Shadow Boost and resisting Steel Type movesets for added longevity. It's one of the best counters, to be sure.

The shadow forme of one of the old-guard, Shadow Entei is a vanilla-flavored counter with a solid mix of DPS and TDO. It can't quite reach the same numbers as the counters above, but it's still a great choice.

Counter | Dynamic Punch | Best |
The corrupted puncher itself, Shadow Machamp is one of the good universal picks here due to a total lack of weaknesses and a strong average performance.

The premier TDO counter for this raid (not counting the insanity that is Mega Charizard Y), Shadow Ho-oh is a great universal pick due to its high DPS and great longevity. And while Sacred Fire+ is ideal, normal Sacred Fire is still very much fine!

Basically a baby Shadow Moltres. Still a great counter!

Incinerate | Blast Burn | Best |
One of the true-vanilla counters for this raid, Shadow Typhlosion keeps pace with Shadow Charizard, as always.

Chandelure literally resists every single move that Registeel has at its disposal while also sporting a high DPS total. A strong argument can be made for Chandelure standing as the top counter under this headder.

A great universal-pick, Shadow Hariyama works on any team for this raid.

The ability to resist Steel Type attacks like most Fire Types gives Keldeo a bit of an edge over some other Fighting Types.

Yes, even non-Mega Blaziken is still good.

Mud Slap | High Horsepower | Best |
Shadow Mamoswine has the DPS needed to be in the Supreme Counters, but its low TDO brought about by a weakness to Fighting and Steel Type moves puts it down here instead.

Counter | Aura Sphere | Best |
Another top-tier attacker held back by its typing in this raid. Lucario is pretty frail to begin with, but its weakness to Fighting Type movesets means that Focus Blast is likely to erase it outright. On the other hand, it resists Steel Type movesets, so it's a prime counter to Flash Cannon!

Low Kick | Focus Blast | Best |
Pheromosa is about as durable as a piece of wet tissue paper, but it's going to make Registeel sting if it gets off a Focus Blast.... yes, "if". Honestly, its biggest problem is that it almost definitely won't get to a 2nd Focus Blast unless Registeel is packing Lock-On, so it's likely to drop with a fair bit of energy saved up, which hurts average DPS.
