PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Water Gun should be paired with Hydro Cannon. This set is better than the Ground-type set against most targets, including Rock-types.
  • Mud Shot should be paired with Earthquake. This set is outstanding if you want a Ground Type Mega.
  • Sludge Wave is underwhelming in every aspect.
  • Surf has been replaced by Mega Swampert's Community Day move.
  • Muddy Water as a 3-bar move can be used in a pinch right before Swampert faints, but otherwise is inferior to even Surf

PVE Overview

Mega Swampert is a massively powerful force in Pokemon Go. It has incredible Water Type damage and great Ground Type damage, and it gives boosts to both types while on the field.

...however, this is the latest Pokemon to suffer from what older players know as "Gyarados Syndrome". Mega Swampert dropped as the top Water Type and a great Ground Type back in 2022, but then in February 2023 we were finally granted the absolute titans that are Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon. Mega Swampert had its time in the spotlight, but now it's been kicked out of that spotlight by two of the best Pokemon that the game will ever know. And to add insult to injury, this is literally the same thing that happened to poor Gyarados, as Kyogre pulled the same trick on both of these Pokemon!

So is Mega Swampert bad? Absolutely not! This is still a very powerful and very useful Pokemon, and it has the advantage of being far cheaper to Mega Evolve than the two Primals, so it will always have its genuine utility. However, it's no longer one of the top Pokemon in the game.
