I'm EXTREMELY salty about the new quest breakthrough...
For real, my only useful legacy move Pokemon is now going to be the most common thing out there. I have a level 40, IV 80 Snorlax with Body Slam currently and adored him. Now he'll be garbage to the better IV ones I'll probably get. No longer do I get to feel special.
Why on earth would they do this? At least offer a different, new move. Makes me almost want to stop playing because of how dumb these updates are getting. Devalue everything I have.
/endrant, thanks for listening, lol
EDIT: Don't the longterm players deserve some love? Let us keep our special pokemon. RIP Gengar, Dragonite, Gyrados, Omastar, etc.

More precisely, trade and uniqueness value. I am known for the jerk who puts his BS Snorlax in the nearby gym. Now others can do it back to me, lol.
I thought I'd never have another chance at a BS Snorlax, so I powered up this clunky 80 IV one. If I would've known this, I would've waited for a better IV one.
Went from my most valuable tradeable 'mon to gifted to everyone basically free.
Stats mean fuckall for trades. Your IVs would get rerolled, and chances are the CP would shift to a lower level unless you traded it to someone else who is level 40. I doubt anyone will take your title as "the jerk" (your words) since gym defenders currently aren't worth the stardust so most everyone will keep theirs at level 15. You have much more to gain for keeping it rather than trading it away, for you this is a blessing in disguise.
Also, Machamp says hi.
I think Snorlax is harder to beat than e.g. Pidgey or Tyranitar, and unlike those Snorlax can really defeat some attackers and beating him take some time. Trust me; when you want to hold gym before raid (or EX-raid) having full gym with Blissey, Snorlax, Chansey, Slaking and Milotic (or at least one of them) really help.
I know your feeling but you d better not think that way. Those old powered up or maxed pokemons they earned your coins and did the best they could when you didn t have better choice like snorlax vaporeon gyarados etc...someone can always wait for the perfect iv one or wait for a 100iv or shiny legendary to max out. But i guess you are not that kind of palyer. Enjoy what we have for the moment, the best thing always comes the last. But who cares, if you are lucky enough ti get another good iv bidyslam snorlax and you really like it just max out one more thats it. Be more positive and you ll find this game more interesting^^
I agree!
Had the same reaction when it came as news. I do not have a bodu slam Snorlax but would have traded something good in return, ut now, fuck no. Why not keep it special? As of now trading is for dex filling and legacys, why devalue trading even more.
I'm guessing they'll do the same with Gengar, Dragonite, Omastar. That would also be sad.
I disagree with so many decisions niantic makes. Its a choice to play but still, they could have done much better.
And IV rolling with low IV Pokemon, don't forget that.
With the exception of Gengar all of the legacy powerhouses have either been outclassed or made not relevant due to changes in the game's mechanics.
-Body Slam Snorlax doesn't carry as much weight (lol) as it did before the gym rework, making it more of a novelty.
-Dragon Breath/Dragon Claw Dragonite is novelty. Dragon Tail/Outrage is stronger overall and Latios does the DB/DC game better.
-Rock Throw was made legacy for Omastar because it goes against Niantic's code of making sure Pokemon can only learn the same moves they can learn in the main series. While Rock Slide is better than Rock Blast or Ancient Power, it's a moot point since we now have Smack Down Tyranitar.
Power creep is real, and barring some exceptions (Gengar) pretty much anything that's legacy can be done better by something else now.
Power creep is not only real, it's driving the game. Suppose the next generation had a pokemon like Raikou, but it was a little weaker in every way. Would anyone want it? Nope. And if we got a steady diet of that, people would start playing different games.
The shiny new thing has to be better than what we have (collectively) or we won't be interested in it. And if the game isn't growing, it's dying.
I agree 110%. I posted this in another topic...
The reintroduction to BS Snorlax really pisses me off. I was lucky enough to catch a 800-ish CP Snorlax with BS. It doesn't have the best IV's. It took me FOREVER to get it to level 39. I had it as my buddy for months + I did a ton of Snorlax raids. And now that Snorlax is valueless. What a ****ing joke! Good job, Niantic.
Yeah, he was definitely one of my most VALUABLE Pokemon. I was so proud of having him. I still remember where I caught him. It was this park a few blocks away from my house. He showed up on my Pokemon Go nearby and I was stoked! I jumped up, got dressed, and ran outside AT NIGHT inside the park. All of that is out of the window, now.
Niantic shouldn't be giving away Pokemon like that. There are SPECIAL stories behind some of the Pokemon that we have. Everything will eventually be VALUELESS, the way things are going.
Agreed.
It was also sort of a nod to the long-timers who have stuck around since the beginning. Great, so we had a non-relevant trophy we could put in gyms, and when someone got Body Slammed, they would know you had a bit of longevity under your belt.
Now? No swag. More homogeneity. Just give it all away!
I can think of several true rewards for older players;
massive rarecandy/TM stockpiles/optimal moves on their pokemon (legacy or not), higher level and greater quantities or legendaries, pokemon that are higher leveled and have better IV's
those arent things that new player can just get for free you know, yes they gave out the birds as breakthrough, but those are level 15 compared to the possible level 25 from weather boosted raids, not to mention the other legendaries that were raid bosses that haven't been repeated yet or other pokemon that were former raid bosses that are now scarce in the wild, or even just pokemon that were more common back then that arent now. Theres a place that back when the game started was a very reliable dratini spot, and now that more pokmeon have been released, that has completely gone away, and im willing to bet there were a lot of other places where similar things happened with very rare pokemon like lapras, snorlax, chansey, etc..
Weather wasn't implemented until towards the end of HO-Oh's first run but your point still stands. People complained about research catches only being level 15, now it's too easy? For veteran players the cost to go from levels 15 to 20 is likely inconsequential but that's clearly not the case for people at those levels.
"massive rarecandy/TM stockpiles/"
These are things all the recent players can have - the game had been going a long time prior to any of these things coming in.
Anyone that thinks these items show you have been around for a while is a new player - not a old timer.
Most of the things you mention are all recent updates...and so go some way to actually prove the point you are trying to rebut.
Only a new player would refer to raids as a way to show you have played for a long time.
I think that it may be a recurring thing, some legacy users like omastar, gengar, lapras, and some others who I cant think of because I didnt play back then, are some of the best sets locked behind legacy, and kinda screws over newer players, this gives them a chance at thos legacy moves, assuming this continues, that and it would be broken if they /just/ stuck to legendaries for breakthroughs, and let people farm with pinab berries
Dont NEWER players deserve something? they got boned out of one of the highest DPS pokemon in the game, shadow claw gengar.
these moves being locked behind legacy was a huge problem with the game, theres a large number of pokemon that have their best moves locked out, making a huge gap between players, this is honestly the best and most balanced thing they can ever do.
you're honeslty just a spoiled brat who wants 'to feel special because they have something no one else does'
Why didn't they download the game like the rest of us did? It was the HOTTEST GAME of the summer! Why didn't they put in the TIME and EFFORT like most of us did? Why didn't they GRIND like all of us?
The new players are already getting HANDOUTS! Look how EASY it is to get Tyranitar and the rest of the Legendaries!!! (Before any rural player makes a comment; I am a rural player too who works in the CITY, so I do most of my raiding in the city) It took me like 3 months to get my first Tyranitar!!!!! Now anyone can download the game and wait for a Tyranitar raid.
Hell, they introduced TRADING. Wouldn't it have made sense for new players to TRADE for the Pokemon that they "missed out" on?
New players will never go through the **** that the veteran players have been through!
It's a joke now.
I legit can't tell if this is satire or not.
For one, maybe Pokemon was just a passive interest and not worth the time when it came out? Maybe some people had shit to do that didn't involve driving all over creation for Larvitar candies? I don't know what your point is about legendaries since they're no longer in the breakthrough boxes so raiding is the only way to get them, as has always been the case.
As for trading, the barriers to prevent black markets also make it prohibitive to new players. They may not have the stardust needed for new Pokedex registers, and what do you expect them to offer for something legacy anyway?
As far as "veteran" status goes, you sound incredibly asshurt over a mobile game. I've been playing since launch too and the reintroduction of legacy moves means nothing to me. I live in a city and have no problem finding anything I'd need (Pokedex sitting at 150/97/113 I think?). Get over yourself.
Plus you KNOW Niantic is going to make Kangaskahn, Mr. Mime and Tauros available world wide as part of the 3 Professor Willow global challenge bonuses (plus a 4th regional - heracross? farfetched again? not sure). It's kind of funny that Niantic releases trading and within weeks starts to eliminate the need for trading.
There will ALWAYS (since caps locking random words for emphasis is trendy this thread) be people late to the party. Yeah we may get some extra regionals for a few days but what about after those few days? Someone starts playing a week after and misses it, they'd still want to trade. Are you gonna be the dick who tells them they should have started playing sooner? I'm gonna stock as many (within reason, box space only goes so far) as I can for future trades.
I'm actually on your side here. I can't wait for this to happen when Community Day moves get reintroduced. "Why didn't you set everything aside for 3 hours for a shitty mobile game????? So what if you had work or family obligations why didn't you take off??? WHY AREN'T YOU AS DEDICATED AS ME REEEEEEEEEEEEE." That's how half this thread is coming off.
To people getting upset, your tears are delicious. Cry more.
"you're honeslty just a spoiled brat"
Seriously?
...you want to arrive late to a game and then still be handed all of the good things that have come over time on a silver platter.
And then you have the nerve to call those that have supported this game the whole time, put the time effort and money in to the game so it could be developed into something you wanted to pick up, as 'spoiled brats' for wanting their efforts to remain relevant.
So according to you...we are spoiled brats, because you want to put in far less time and effort and be yet still rewarded equally
Wow! I would be disappointed if my 6yo was this immature.
Entitled much...? Who is the spoiled brat that expects everything handed to them???!!?!
