What grinds your gears the most?

Disclaimer: I do not intend for this post to devolve into an anti-Niantic frenzy.

One thing that really, absolutely grinds my gears is Gengar's poison-typing. Here is a terrific psychic-counter, with a sub-typing that demolishes it's survivability against the very Pokemon it's supposed to excel at countering. It's bad enough that Gengar has the bulk of silk, but to throw in a weakness to psychic-types is just too much. /endrant.

What are non-Niantic-related aspects of this game that grind your gears the most?

Gyarados should be a dragon too!

As for the game: golden razz berries, bugs/crashes and that the scanners are down.

Yeah, I don't really get why he got the Flying type. He could have been Dragon/Flying like Dragonite if he indeed flies but I don't remember ever seeing one fly in the anime, and even in the game they're in water. So Water/Dragon would have worked fine.

It's partly Niantic, but the general worthlessness of many Pokemon. For the most part, stats come from the other games, but the difference between special/physical attack and defense makes some Pokemon stronger or weaker in Go. There is also the speed stats and lack of status conditions. All that is combined with cp vs level. In the other games nearly any fully evolved Pokemon is viable, provided it is at another level. When playing Moon I came across Kelfki. His typing and move combos allowed him to run through almost anything because he was a higher level. In Go he will just be another dex filler. I dont totally blame Niantic, because it was using the real stats, but wanted a more dumbed down game for casual players.

Totally agree with this. I can't believe I can't use a good Blastoise here or that Suicune is so much totally outclassed by every other non-legendary water pokemon. I always liked the variety with how I embraced every run of the other games, always taking different mons for my teams to enjoy a different game experience. In Go it is unfortunately all about those top-tier mons, otherwise you end up with less premiere balls, fighting longer the gyms, unable to solo T3s or duo T4s, etc.

Completely agree. If status effects and abilities were a thing (maybe along with another changeup to quick/charge moves), we'd probably be looking at a much larger pool of viable Mons. In the main series, Mons like Crobat and Aerodactyl aren't just viable, they can absolutely wreck face. Hell, with the right moves, Linoone can be viable in main series! In Go, sadly, they're all just Dex fillers. Don't even get me started with Suicune. 😋

That said, I realize that Niantic has to answer to Nintendo and the Pokemon Company, both of whom probably don't want Go to be too similar to the main series games and thus directly compete with it.

Being blind to raids again. I just don't understand why Niantic doesn't see the value in having an in-game replacement for raid scanners considering raid passes are their main source of income.

I wonder if anyone from Niantic has ever played their own game outside of a metropolis?

Hopeful that Niantic gets this message from all of us and decides to up the range on raid detection somehow. Right now, dedicated groups are using their eyes and Messenger or Discord groups as a de facto scanner. This penalizes people in rural areas who don't have the people density to see the larger swaths of area to cover the gyms in their area (which are likely more spread out). And in dense urban areas, no one cares about scanners, just walk to the raid you want to do.

One little thing that drives me nuts is when you remote berry check a gym and that stupid ''A raid battle is currently in progress'' message comes up instead of just showing the normal screen with the raid boss and it's CP and how much time is left. As if this isn't inadequate enough, you have to back out and check the raid tab on the map then click on the raid, then warp to an idiotic overhead view of the gym that has a tiny obscured timer over it that can't be read. It's like they don't want you to know about raids

The best way for players to protest would be to stop spending money on the game. There is also the Report Critical Issue option (under Settings) to explain their rationale.

I actually did use the Report Issue with screenshots. Of course, I didn't get a response but I did my part. My raid pass purchases have plummeted as well but I'm probably in the minority on that one.

I would like to see that as a perk of getting a gym to gold badge status, that you can then see what raids spawn in it and their timers.

Ho-oh being worthless due to crap moves. I hope Niantic gives it Hidden Power or a STAB fast move.

The stupefying lack of signature moves in the game.

Also, completely agree about Gengar's typing. RIP, little buddy. Life was not fair.

Hidden Power's arbitrary typing
Not being able to see IVs directly like in Sun and Moon
Latios' and Latias' lack of legs
Gen 1's lazy designs like Ditto, Magneton, Dugtrio and Voltorb.
Jynx's horrendous face
All green shinies except Scizor

I totally don't remember this, but recently saw that apparently in Gen1 psychic was immune to ghost moves. ... Not that there were any good ghost moves in Gen1 for that immunity to be relevant, but still.

When people cry about spoofers.

They didn't choose to be:

-of low socioeconomic standing
-in an unsafe neighborhood
-in a pokemon desert
-disabled
