Is this Machamp worth powering up?

I recently caught a 1627 CP Machamp with Counter and Close Combat. He is an 89 IV with 15 Attack, 11 Defense, and 14 Stamina. That is my best Machamp CP and IV wise. Should I power him up? Thanks for the replies.

Depends on what level you are and how badly you need it. If you’re making it level 30 from a level 15, it might be better to use all those candy’s into a much higher cp Machamp. In the grand scheme of things, IVs only make an actual difference between 50% and 100%

I'm almost level 30 and I caught it from a raid. Machops aren't common in my area. So should I hold off powering up? Thanks for the advice.

If you really that close to 30 just level up and you could catch wild lvl35 machop. Since you'll be able to power up only to lvl32 for a while even mediocre iv lvl35 will be better than yours at lvl32.

I recommend you to try solo Machamp instead. It's not bad, but you will eventually capture ones with better CP & IV + Dynamic Punch.

Sounds like a good idea. How often do you get one above that CP? Just curious considering I have 4 from raids and that's my best. Thanks for your help!

Cannot say much, because I just started soloing Machamp recently. As I recall, I captured 93% CP Machamp with Max ATK in my 8th attempt.

You will always get candies and sometimes TMs those can be used to powering up your Machamp, so no matter how lucky you are I still recommend soloing Machamp.

Math wise; chance to have higher iv with 15 attack. It can only miss 4 iv points but none in attack.

1/6 (15 attack is 1/6 chance because the IV from mons from raids vary only between 10-15 so 6 possibilities.)

Remaining possibilities; 14 out of 36 possible combinations appear with 4 or less iv points missing.

(1/6)*(14/36)= 0,0648

You'll have around 6,5% chance at encountering a higher IV machamp from a raid with 15 attack IV

That depends on how lucky you are. I've done about 20 Machamp raids and only ever got one that was better than yours, by 1 point of defense. Almost every raid I do ends up around 1600 CP. And since I only see maybe one Machamp raid per week, it took me months to finally get one with IVs in the 90s. On the other hand, for Tyranitar raids, I've only done a couple more than Machamp, yet I've caught four with 15 attack at 96% or higher. So it's hard to predict. That one you caught could be the best you ever see, no matter how many raids you do, or you could get a perfect weather-boosted one your very next raid.

Yep it’s hard to say.

A close playing partner of mine has done exactly one Machamp raid. And caught a 100% from it.

You just never know.

If the concern is merely stardust, you can try doing some Machamp raids in cloudy weather to save 31K stardust powering from 20 to 25.

If this one already had either Counter/Dynamic Punch or Bullet Punch/Dynamic Punch (for guaranteed fast TM to Counter), the extra stardust would not be as much a concern. But having to gamble on charge TMs with lesser IVs or compromise on the second best charge move is frustrating.

It's pretty good but if you're able to solo Machamp raids then getting another is just a matter of time.

If you find yourself needing better attackers for Tyranitar this could be a viable candidate for the time being. There's other options like evolving random high level Makuhitas though, if you can.

Even if you do have a better Machamp you're still going put this in your Tyranitar squad until you get 6 really good Machamps, so don't think of it as a wasted investment.

IMO that machamp is better than a 100% one due to its lower defense stat so definatly if you need fighting types

Lower defense IV (assuming that it is low enough to have an effect) is negligible for energy gain, and just as likely to hurt you as it is to help you.
