Big Fish, Tiny Rats and Pikachus
Three of the most difficult medals for me to complete are those for Big Magikarp, Tiny Rattatas and Pikachus.
I have used this Christmas event to catch about 60 Pikachus with Santa hats and am now on 206 out of 300 for this medal - this now seems achievable.
However, the release of Gen 3 has significantly diminished the spawn rates for Magikarp and Rattata around me and I am stalled on 130 big fish (from 929 Magikarp caught = 14%) and 242 tiny rats (from 2151 Rattatas caught = 11%).
Even with a return to "normal" Magikarp and Ratta spawn rates, it will take me a long time to complete the big fish medal - how are you getting on?
Answers
Rattata 464/300, total 4129 caught for 11,2% rate
Magikarp 156/300, total 973 caught for 16% rate
Pikachu 383/300
I always intended to some day start spending time every day to go grind at one of the best Magikarp spots in my area but gen 3 has ruined Magikarp spawns so it's looking doubtful whether I'll ever be able to complete it without a very large nest nearby.
They turned the weather off last night, from 3am to 4:30am this morning I was looking on the spawn/raid map to see what was there...Magikarp wasn't. Dratini wasn't. A sprawling American metro area. Handful (half dozen) Magikarp. Luckily I caught one today at a usual fish spot...my 7th Gyarados was stuck on 29.5
My Magikarp and Pikachu-medals are ready since almost a year.
The Ratata medal is a totally different story....
I probably live in a very Rat depleted area.
156 tiny Ratatas so far, and I catch everyone I see, use berries and ultra ball if necessary. My total collector medal is 87.500 so far.
I guess I will never get that one since ratata is gradually going to be more and more rare.
