Big Fish, Tiny Rats and Pikachus

Three of the most difficult medals for me to complete are those for Big Magikarp, Tiny Rattatas and Pikachus.

I have used this Christmas event to catch about 60 Pikachus with Santa hats and am now on 206 out of 300 for this medal - this now seems achievable.

However, the release of Gen 3 has significantly diminished the spawn rates for Magikarp and Rattata around me and I am stalled on 130 big fish (from 929 Magikarp caught = 14%) and 242 tiny rats (from 2151 Rattatas caught = 11%).

Even with a return to "normal" Magikarp and Ratta spawn rates, it will take me a long time to complete the big fish medal - how are you getting on?

130/843= 15% for Magikarp
333/2863= 11% for Rattata
332 Pikachu (mostly from the various events).

Not holding my breath on getting there Magikarp medal anytime soon.

I'm 1M to reach L40, but still by far to Rat and Karp medal:
- 128 big Karps (881, 14.5%)
- 195 tiny rats (1668, 11.7%)
The rates look the same between us!
So, just do a math and we have to caught
- 2000 Karps to get 300 big (15%)
- 2500 Rats to get 300 tiny (12%)

Magikarp: 189/1287 = 14,69%
Rattata: 196/1596 = 12,28%
Pikachu: 300

Coincidently, it was an hour ago or so that I caught my 300th Pikachu :o

You have to wait for nests if you really want these medals.

Yes, Rattata nests exist. In the past, they have frequently been unreported since Rattata were so common it was hard to tell if it was a nest or not.

But, the Silph Road Nest Atlas has several reported Rattata nests across the country.

Rattata 464/300, total 4129 caught for 11,2% rate
Magikarp 156/300, total 973 caught for 16% rate
Pikachu 383/300

I always intended to some day start spending time every day to go grind at one of the best Magikarp spots in my area but gen 3 has ruined Magikarp spawns so it's looking doubtful whether I'll ever be able to complete it without a very large nest nearby.

>gen 3 has ruined Magikarp spawns

I think it was the weather spawns more than gen 3, but I have to agree. Very few magikarp, zero dratini since then :(

I'm less worried about a few medals than being able to evolve or power up gyarados!

I think it's both. Weather plays a bigger role in general but even during rainy weather it's hard to find Karps in places where they used to be common spawns.

They turned the weather off last night, from 3am to 4:30am this morning I was looking on the spawn/raid map to see what was there...Magikarp wasn't. Dratini wasn't. A sprawling American metro area. Handful (half dozen) Magikarp. Luckily I caught one today at a usual fish spot...my 7th Gyarados was stuck on 29.5

My Magikarp and Pikachu-medals are ready since almost a year.

The Ratata medal is a totally different story....
I probably live in a very Rat depleted area.

156 tiny Ratatas so far, and I catch everyone I see, use berries and ultra ball if necessary. My total collector medal is 87.500 so far.

I guess I will never get that one since ratata is gradually going to be more and more rare.

Maybe they should make a shiny rattata, then maybe I'll try to catch more. I only have 63. I have my other badges 503 chus and 463 karps chasing shinies. Not really planning on catching rats in the near future tho unless they BRING A SHINY!
