100% Magikarp... but...

I hatched a (125 CP) Magikarp yesterday. I love it but, if I evolve it it could end up with a poor move-set like Twister and make it unwanted and not very valuable. Would you leave it as a Magikarp and marvel at your 100% flawless fish or risk losing that joy? Of course if the Gyarados has the best move-set I would be in heaven. I am scared to evolve it though!!!

Imagine having a girlfriend that is a virgin and then some other guy sleeps with her while you are dating. That is how I would feel about tainting my 100% fish if it ends up with Twister.

HELP!!!!

Sure it could end up with twister, it could also end up with hydro pump. Such is life...

No point staring at a 100 IV magikarp. What can you do with that apart from staring at it.

Bro, i guess its better to spend 400 candies on a 100% than use the same candies on a lower IV, right?. If you keep it as a Magikarp, its worse than a Gyarados with Twister, and if you evolve a lower IVs you still with the same chance to get Twister and will spend the same 400 candies.

You will face ugly truth.
I finally got to evolve my 96% bulbasaur to venusaur and it got best defending move set.
Still worthless piece of shit, cus i have much better defenders and i wanted grass type attacker.
So good luck with your Gyarados.........................

I just evolved the same mon and ended up with Bite/Hydro Pump. Be fearless. Evolve that puppy...

This right here is the biggest problem with the game. Random movesets that cannot be changed is the reason I will end up quitting. It makes no sense to not allow trainers to (work hard to) change movesets.

I had a 100% magikarp, walked 400 km and evolved it.... now I have a perfect gyarados with the perfect moveset... give it a try :)... i also have a 97% magikarp but wont walk 400km again for a while (moveset could be the worst :D).

I actually think Twister gets an overly bad rap now a days.

When I fight a Gyrados it's always with Jolteon and I actually hope it doesn't have Twister. Pulse and Pump are far easier to dodge and safer to time my Thunders for.

Agree with this. Twister is not a bad move. They all have their merits.

Yes. Twister as annoying AF as a defender. I would much rather face a HP or DP.

I agree. Twister is so annoying to fight against. It slows me down when attacking it. I think it gets a bad rep as a charge move and it may not be as valuable for trade or whatever. But in real life situation as trainers I think it's not as bad as it's reputation. Btw, Gyarados is overrated I think. It's useful as a gym fodder due to it's high CP. Not a top tier mon by any means. Go ahead and evolve it! If you're scared then get a dog.

It was more useful as a defender before it was buffed, it had just enough cp to sit at the bottom of a gym to prestige real easy and fast but still strong enough not to be a joke.

I think Twister is better for defending than Hydro, and Gyarados has crazy high cp now. It's a good defender cause it actually stays in gyms. And on offense, I'm sure you already have a water attacker...perhaps a Vaporeon?

I had a 10cp 100% iv magikarp. Evolved it, got hydro pump, powered it all the way up, no regrets.

Your situation is definitely better than mine.

What else are you playing the game for? Evolve and take a chance. You'll never end up with a quality girlfriend if you don't take chances. If you evolve there is a 30% chance you get a crappy move set, if you don't evolve there is a 100% chance you will have a useless magicarp. Good luck!

Each moveset has its merits. I see them as such:

  1. Hydro Pump, the best DPS moveset and absolutely destroys Fire, Rock/ground types
  2. Dragon Pulse, the best moveset against Dragonite, and with the current CP buff, you can probably take out 2-3 2k dragonites
  3. Twister, is definitely the most annoying moveset on defense to fight against. I mean, it certainly will not kill my Jolteon outright, but as a dodger I'm always contemplating whether or not I should dodge this, and you'll waste seconds of their time. Even then, Gyarados has such a high CP cap now, just power it up and stick it in a gym, you can get a good spot.

Yeah, a 100%IV Magikarp is a gift and should not be abandoned. If its move is Twister, it's better than HP or DP to defend a gym and it can stay higher than most common defenders.

All of my 100%ers have had less than diserable movesets so far. Part of the risk we take but it's worth it to me to do it and know than not do it and wonder.
