If CP Scaled With Product of Stats
I was bored so I decided to crunch some numbers to find out what various Pokémon's CP would be if it scaled with ATKDEFSTA as opposed to ATK(STADEF)^(.5). The formula I used to make these calculations is designed to be proportional to the current CP system but with the scaling described above.
Here's the formula:
(((ATK+15)(STA+15)(DEF+15))^(2/3))/16.01)
Here are the results:
Top Sixteen:
1. Blissed (4360.635)
2. Snorlax (3641.752)
3. Tyranitar (3450.161)
4. Dragonite (3242.788)
5. Rhydon (3234.626)
6. Vaporeon (3203.66)
7. Gyarados (3080.365)
8. Donphan (2942.698)
9. Lapras (2831.622)
10. Golem (2831.172)
11. Steelix (2774.017)
12. Muk (2738.22)
13. Heracross (2680.322)
14. Exeggutor (2661.398)
15. Feraligatr ( 2627.618)
16. Machamp (2620.677)
Glass Cannons:
1. Arcanine (2609.923)
2. Espeon (2573.698)
3. Flareon (2558.058)
4. Jolteon (2443.174)

Tanks:
1. Umbreon (2427.101)
2. Chansey (2367.063)
3. Wobuffet (1462.978)

but some pokemon will be overrated like blissey if it stands at 4k. if that happen no more dragonites tyranitar or gyaradous at gyms makes the gyms more harder. its not balance if you put that way thats why niantic calculated this carefully and well plan cp change makes the game balance. no need to change it lol
This metric (ATK x DEF x STM) accounts for the mon's total damage output to the opponent before fainting. It is one part of the CP (the other is just ATK, the sheer speed of taking down an opponent). So your list suggests a defender list regarding total damage output to the attacker, or tank attacker list.
That's true. This metric would make it so that each stat is weighed equally as opposed to ATK holding 50% of the weight while the two mitigative stats each hold 25%. Thusly, it would more accurately reflect the true combat power of each mon than the current formula does. It does not take move sets and typing into account, if someone made one that did Dragonite would probably score higher than Tyranitar on it.
....and gyms would be less diverse and propbably too hard to take down for half of the more serious players with regularity. I say this every day (but this is the first time I get to say it today, yay) -The problem isn't CP alone. I know everyone evolved a Steelix and now is on a crusade because he cannot hold a gym because of his craptastic CP. The truth is the problem is larger than just CP and there is really no single lone CP change that will not create as many or more problems than it "fixes". Also, Steelix and others not viable due to CP staus are actually no better at defending than most of the "double weakenss" mons and their ilk. Only Lapras is really screwed by this through great typing. Not "awesome defender stats". Only Blissey and Snorlax are a challenge. All others are roughly the same with different problems. We need a bunch of changes across for:
moves-added, stauses etc
CP-defender specific CP or an overhaul
damage calculations-Perhaps a slight lessing of STAB compared to move type advantage
Attacking rewards/rewards structure
Gym held limits
Any one of these things would fix absolutely nothing long term. A combo of a little of each or some of them would fix everything.
Although every time I start to figure out how much of each I hit the same wall....Blissey. Just like above she either shatters the scheme or is not affected by it while others are. I know nobody wants to hear this but I'm not sure how any change can happen long term without a change of some kind directed at her...maybe if "speed" is added or something like that. I am not demanding she gets nerfed-she is my favorite fight in gyms. But I cannot figure out an angle or amount to fix these things without her being nerfed somehow, unfortunately.
