Larvitar/Pupitar Evolve

I don't typically ask questions here but I am quite torn right now. I have the following two Mon below at 97 Larvitar candy. The bulk of which has come from hatching and walking. I've only caught two larvitar and the Pupitar below. I'm just about to hit lvl 35 and got about 1 mil dust so dust is not an issue.

Pupitar level 30 84% Max CP: 3591
Larvitar level 20 93% Max CP: 3634

Obviously, the lvl 30 would be immediately viable and if I get fireblast then I at least get a 3000 CP guy to throw in gyms. However, I don't know if I would ever take an 84% IV guy much above lvl 30. So, is it worth evolving something that I know I won't spend dust on (even if I do get a good moveset)? Otherwise, I'm going to wait until I get around 220 candy to evolve my best Larvitar at that time and risk the move set lottery.
Thank you in advance for any advice!

I would evolve the pupitar first, it's ready to go at that level and you won't have to invest any candies into it unless you change your mind.

Just start saving again for the larvitar. Took only a month to get this far. I just got my first larvitar the other night so I'm at 6 candies

Good point. I did get lucky though and got 3 hatches already. Not sure if that streak will continue haha.

If you believe that attackers should be lvled up to max 30 and no further... as I do...then I'd do the pupitar first.

If you get a good attacking moveset, then you instantly have an attacker.

If you get a lousy moveset, then you saved yourself 25 candy. And can start saving for the larvitar.

If you get a defensive moveset, then you should already be able to stick it in gyms and be around the top CP.

Typically I agree with you on the lvl 30 for attackers. I tend to want to max out trophy attackers though (like my 98% DB/DC dragonite) and envisioned doing the same with a theoretical (96%+ B/SE T-rex). But realistically I could be waiting quite a bit for that IV larvitar and even longer for the candy and maybe never for the moveset haha

Since I have yet to see a single one of ANY of them, and I'm level 34, I'd jump all over the level 30 Pupitar right now. I probably wouldn't waste any candy further developing it, but it would be great to have a 3K T-rex to throw in a gym today!

The 84% one is already good, having a superior CP than a 100% IV maxed out Dragonite.

Where do you find larvitar? I've only caught one and hatched one, very long way away from making mine. I would wait for the higher iv one. Seeing as how rare they are . Will take a long time to collect 125 more+ 100 or so to max it lol

There is a really popular park for playing about 20 min from where I live. So I go there occasionally and I'll usually find one. But most of my candy is from hatching (I use all my 100 coins a day for incubators) and buddy candy (I run a lot) haha

No question I would evolve the pupitar. You will get something useful no matter what you get and save a ton of candy. Either it will be an automatic high CP defender or a great offensive mon at no cost.

Yeah I'm definitely leaning towards this. I have 4, 10km eggs incubating right now, so I think I'm going to see if I get a 100% IV larv (highly unlikely) then just go for.
