Defensive Gyarados
Today I finally evolved my second gyarados (96% IV) and got DT/HP. According to this site this is the best moveset for all,(Hooray!!!) but is really that way?
I have fought several DT / C gyarados and they are a pain in the ass, a fail dodging crunch and goodbye...
I actually have not fought against any DT/HP gyarados, and the ones with B / HP I destroy them because I don't dodge the quick moves and they usually faint before releasing Hydro Pump.
So, for defense, is really Hydro Pump better than crunch or outrage?
Thanks!!

Best way to dodge HP is to dodge all quick moves. Because HP doesn't always give a text "warning" you have to assume any dodge flash may be for an HP. So if you dodge all quick moves then you will dodge every HP by reading the dodge flash. It's difficult to fight using dodge only charge move style against a defender with HP because you WILL get hit by an unwarned HP.
That is the safest way to dodge it. But usually you can expect when is going to shoot the HP. There's usually a change in the animation. Before every charge move there's always a short preparation. You notice that the Pokémon takes breath and shoots. But it's true that is risky.
I would pay less attention to the first attacks and start dodging consistently when I presume that the defender's charge move is nearly ready.
I see people saying certain charge moves are hard to dodge all the time, but honestly, they're all easy.. I'm not trying to show off or anything, but have you considered dodging every move? Yeah, the DPS and being efficient argument will come, but just stop and think for a second.. Do you really need to be efficient or end the battle fast against something unworthy like Gyarados? It'll faint quick enough either way.
If it's something tanky and time-consuming like Snorlax or Blissey, I'd understand. Tap away.
Dodge everything style is the easiest way to dodge charge moves because you won't be stuck in your attack animation during a defenders charge move. That being said, some people prefer dodge only charge moves which requires more caution and timing. It will seem difficult to dodge a charge move like HP if you fight this way.
I am mostly a dodge everything fighter because I use DB/DC dragonites as main attackers. But prestiging may require a mon that is not optimal for dodge everything style because of limited type of mons for prestiging. Especially prestiging against Blissey. If you use a prestiger with considerably less CP than Blissey then you run the risk of timing out vs trying to gain as much prestige points as possible. This requires dodging only charged moves from Blissey. If your attacker has a slow quick move or a long duration charge move then it will "seem" difficult to dodge a charge move. Hope that makes sense.
