Spawn Spotlights break down the spawns in a given event, giving you a rough idea of how to get each featured Pokemon and what to prioritize this event! This guide is broken into four categories based on merit and tries to list each featured Pokemon in order of importance, though that will always differ player to player.

Spawn Spotlight
- Pokemon Type: Bug
- Boosted Weather: Rain
- Available From: Research
- Research: Trade a Pokemon
- Shiny Available: No
- Useful In: Raids, Ultra League, Great League
Escavalier is one of the best non-Mythical, non-Shadow bugs for raiding, with comparable DPS to other options, better bulk, and Steel defensive typing for reduced damage. Bug-types aren’t the best for Raiding in general and will probably need to be weather boost-ed or doubly Super Effective to be with considering, but Escavalier’s the first one to consider in this regard.
Escavalier is currently dominating the Ultra League in Go Battle League as a Counter user that also threatens Cresselia.
Escavalier isn’t an amazing Pokemon in the Great League but can still hold its own with its unique moveset.
Karrablast isn’t heavily featured in the Wild this event, but it costs 0 candy to evolve after a trade!
Note: the task “Trade a Pokemon” can also reward Shelmet. Shelmets sole design is tricking players into thinking they can evolve an Escavalier. Don’t be fooled
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Poison
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Cloudy
- Available From: Wild, Raid (2*)
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Ultra League, Great League
Drapion needs to be maxed out for the Ultra League, but it can hold its own against anything weak to its attacks + Registeel if you’re using a Bite Drapion.
In the Great League, Drapion is a jack of all trades with access to a variety of Charge moves to keep opponents guessing. This winds up mostly suiting it well for Silph Cups where it’s a very versatile Pokemon
- Pokemon Type: Bug
- Boosted Weather: Rain
- Available From: Research
- Research: Catch 15 Bug Type Pokemon
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Great League
There’s 3 different Burmy to collect. All male Burmy evolve into Mothim. Female’s evolve into different Wormadam based on the Burmy form. Of those, only the pink one is any good. So there’s a 1/6 chance to get a Pokemon worth a dam, and each task requires catching 15 Bug-types! So yea… grab your net!
Wormadam (Trash) (that’s its name) is Bug-Steel with respectable bulk. Despite the double Fire weakness, it’s a pretty durable Pokemon. It’s held back a little by slow moves but can put up a solid fight in the Great League.
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Poison
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Cloudy
- Available From: Wild
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Great League
- Mega Evolution
Fresh off it’s Community Day, Beedrill is a solid Pokemon in the Great League. You’ll want the exclusive Drill Run so its best to wait for December to evolve this bugger. With Drill Run, Bee’s claim to fame is threatening Azumarill and Registeel in the GL.
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Flying
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Windy
- Available From: Wild, Research, Raids (3*), Incense (Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1)
- Research: Hatch an egg
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Raids, Ultra League, Limited GL (Draft, Silph)
- Mega Evolution
Scizor is the 4th strongest non-mythical Bug for Raiding content following Pinsir, Escavalier, and Yanmega. It’s shares Steel-typing with Escavalier which can provide some key resistances. Unfortunately, the above Pokemon all benefit more from Mega Evolution than Scizor too.
Scizor’s most common home is the Ultra League, where it can threaten Super Effective damage against top Legendaries Giratina and Cresselia.
Syther’s shiny rate is reported as being higher than most Pokemon.
- Pokemon Type: Bug
- Boosted Weather: Rain
- Available From: Raid (3*)
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Raids, Limited PvP (Silph, Draft)
- Mega Evolution
Pinsir mostly makes the list for having a Mega Evolution.
It performs well in Raids but Bug-types are wholly unexciting.
Pinsir is so unexciting that it was to be featured in a Raiding event that was canceled (likely due to lack of interest from just about everyone)
Noteworthy Spawns
These Bugs are mostly outclassed by those above, but have some limited merit.
- Pokemon Type: Bug
- Boosted Weather: Rain
- Available From: Research, Raids (4*)
- Research: Make 5 Curve Ball Throws
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Limited PvP (Silph, Draft)
Forretress’s use in PvP has dwindled significantly as it loses to Azu, Regi, and Altaria. It still sees use in Cups/Draft with more specific metagames
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Flying
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Windy
- Available From: Wild, Raid (2*)
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Raids
Despite the name, this Pokemon cannot mega evolve. Because of that, there’s very little incentive to Power Up Yanmega as opposed to its bug brothers. It does also pass as a very mediocre Flying attacker though that use is mostly limited to raid challenges (unique/draft)
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Rock
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Partly Cloudy
- Available From: Wild, Research, Raid (1*), Incense
- Research: Use 3 Berries to Catch Pokemon
- Shiny Available: Yes New!
- Useful In: Limited PvP (Silph, Draft)
Crustle is good for a Bug-type, with access to Rock moves against things that would otherwise burn/peck at bugs. However, it’s a pretty weak Rock-type.
In the Ultra League, Crustle competes against the bugs mentioned above which just have a better array of matchups against key players.
According to user reports, Dwebble is a common Incense spawn during this event.
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Poison
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Cloudy
- Available From: Wild
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Limited PvP (Silph, Draft)
Venomoth is an average Pokemon mostly limited to Silph Cups. There, it’s able to shine in some formats where Pokemon can have a difficult time taking down the Confusion user.
- Pokemon Type: Bug
- Boosted Weather: Rain
- Available From: Wild, Incense (Sunday, June 28 and Monday, June 29)
- Shiny Available: Yes
- Useful In: Limited PvP (Silph, Draft)
Wurmple has a random branching evolution (like Jolteon/Flareon/Vaporeon) meaning you’ll need to acquire even more to collect all of the shinies.
Dustox has limited use in the Great League despite falling short of the CP cap. It has seen use in a Silph Cup or two.
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Flying
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Windy
- Available From: Wild
- Shiny Available: No
- Useful In: Limited PvP (Silph, Draft)
Only Female Combee can evolve and its catch rate is so low that males aren’t worth clicking on. You can spot the difference from the map overview as females have a red center on the front.
Vespiquen features a defensive stat spread and thus decent bulk, a vulnerable typing, and a somewhat weak moveset in terms of damage.
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Poison
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Cloudy
- Available From: Wild
- Shiny Available: No
- Useful In: Limited PvP (Silph, Draft)
Scolipede enjoys throwing out big Megahorns in the Great League, though its use in the meta overall is limited.
Other Spawns
These Bug-types aren't great, but they can at least be shiny!
- Pokemon Type: Bug
- Boosted Weather: Rain
- Available From: Wild
- Shiny Available: Yes
The only one with meta relevance is Metapod, and that's in name alone.
- Pokemon Type: Bug/Rock
- Boosted Weather: Rain, Partly Cloudy
- Available From: Wild, Raids (3)
- Shiny Available: Yes
Friendly reminder: Shuckle is not a soloable Raid.
Purely Pests
These Bugs are the worst of the bunch!
