PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Lock On has high energy gains, allowing Porygon-Z to pump out charge moves faster.

  • Charge Beam fairly reliably synergizes with Porygon-Z's charged moves.

  • Hidden Power has diverse typings that can pair well with any of Porygon-Z's non-Normal charged moves to make it an okay specialist in Grass, Ice, or Eectric due to its high attack.

  • Hidden Power Ice and Blizzard make Porygon a decent Ice attacker.

  • Solar Beam is superior to Zap Cannon when facing Water-types.

  • Charge Beam + Zap Cannon is potent against Flying-types.

  • Return offers maximum neutral DPS, but is only available on a Purified Porygon-Z.

  • Tri-Attack is the next best neutral damage option, however it is limited to events and Elite TMs.

  • Hyper Beam offers strong neutral DPS, but can be less consistent as a 1-bar move.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Hidden Power is superior to Charge Beam due to higher base power, and it makes Porygon-Z something of a wild-card on defense, as it could be nearly any type.

  • Lock On is one of the worst moves on defense.

  • Tri-Attack has STAB and lower energy cost, making it the best choice on defense.

  • Return can be used very frequently on defense and is almost impossible to dodge, but its damage is somewhat weak.

  • Hyper Beam has the highest power and widest neutral coverage, though it is easy to dodge.

  • Zap Cannon has good power, but is almost as easy as Hyper Beam to dodge.

  • Blizzard has wide offensive coverage and a fairly early damage window, though it has the lowest base power of Porygon-Z's charged moves.

  • Solar Beam hits very hard and is harder to dodge than Hyper Beam or Zap Cannon, though several common gym-cleaners such as Dragonite, Metagross, and Rayquaza resist it.

PVE Overview

Porygon2 got a malware-laden update to its stats and appearance, thus becoming Porygon-Z, but it didn’t receive any upgrades to its normally wide movepool. With Lock-On's high energy gains, it can slot in against basically anything weak to one of its powerful charge moves and can offer a fair bit of generalist utility, though it's basically never going to be a top pick in any of these roles.

In partly cloudy weather, Porygon-Z can fire an incredibly strong Tri-Attack, though Normal Type is generally inferior.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Lock-On + Tri-Attack*

Lock-On features the best energy generation in the game, and is recommended to fuel Porygon-Z's very expensive Charge Moves.

Tri-Attack is mandatory due to its lesser energy cost, though it is limited to Elite TMs and Community Day events. Porygon-Z suffers from the lack of a cheap Charge Move option; with the exception of its Communtiy Day move, all of its Charge Moves cost at least 70 energy, which is absurdly slow. Any combination of its Charge Moves alongside Tri-Attack can be chosen depending on desired coverage.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 1 / 5

Porygon-Z doesn't have any real use in PvP. High offensive stats result in poor bulk in Great League. while a highly inefficient moveset can result in excessive overkill damage, or fainting before being able to land a charge move.

Ultra League: 0 / 5

At first glance, a mono-Normal typing may seem appealing when considering the frequent usage of Ghost-types in this league. While it definitely can be a perk against Ghost-types using only Ghost-type moves, this is mostly the only niche that Porygon-Z has going for it.

Master League: 0 / 5

Porygon-Z has a max CP of 3266 at level 40, which lacks behind many of the powerhouses in Master League. More importantly, its moveset problem is still its main drawback. While Porygon-Z can pick up some matchups in an even fight, its performance drops significantly if the opponent commits both shields.
