Xurkitree is an outstanding attacker, so chances are a lot of players are going to be after it whenever it shows up — even if it requires a Remote Raid pass due to its regional status. Regardless, this isn't a terribly hard raid given the best possible counters, though this can change depending on Xurkitree's moveset. The same reason that players want Xurkitree also means that it is going to hit hard when not resisted, and can potentially wipe some would-be counters with the right Charged Move.

Team composition

  • Ground is the only weakness that Xurkitree has.

  • The top Ground Types his genuinely hard, though the power of the type drops fairly quickly as we go down the list.

Battling strategy

  • Re-entering may be necessary, and the odds of needing to re-enter can rise greatly depending on what moves Xurkitree is using.

  • Dodging Dazzling Gleam and especially Grass Knot can be very helpful.

Note: "Good" movesets are not necessarily viable at the level indicated.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Supreme Mega Evolution Counters

Primal Groudon Primal Groudon
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Primal Groudon beats everything else in this raid by a mile. It has huge average DPS and TDO that outright dwarfs everything, and it doesn't even have to worry about Grass Knot or Dazzling Gleam thanks to only taking neutral damage from the former, and resisting the latter. Add to this the fact that Primal Groudon boosts its entire team by simply existing, and it's pretty clear that Primal Groudon rules this raid with an iron claw.

Good Mega Evolution Counters

Mega Garchomp Mega Garchomp
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Garchomp has an amazing 3x resistance to Xurkitree's Electric Type moves, and it only takes neutral damage from Grass Knot, meaning it has the potential to outright dwarf everything not named Primal Groudon in this raid. However, it's also held back by a weakness to Dazzling Gleam. Regardless, this is a great Mega Evolution if Primal Groudon is unavailable for whatever reason.

Mega Swampert Mega Swampert
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Swampert is a good backup Mega Evolution, but it's all-around worse than the above candidates. This is in part due to its weaker DPS, and in part due to its mere 1x resistance to Electric Type moves, and double-weakness to Grass Knot.

Supreme Counters

shadow_excadrill Shadow Excadrill
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Excadrill is one of the best Ground Type attackers in the game, and it works fantastically here. It has the customary 2x resistance to Electric Type moves, but it also has a resistance to Dazzling Gleam while also taking neutral damage from Grass Knot. Add to this access to Scorching Sands for damage output, and you've got a genuinely great Pokemon.

Shadow Garchomp Shadow Garchomp
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Garchomp has all of the same advantages of Mega Garchomp, but weaker. However, the fact that it doesn't take up a Mega slot makes it very attractive for a raid slot here.

ShadowSwine Shadow Mamoswine
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

A simple bit of TM work can take an Ice Type Shadow Mamoswine and turn it into a genuinely good Ground Type attacker, one that can seriously hit Xurkitree hard. However, it's a bit frail despite its 2x resistance to Xurkitree's Electric Type moves, and it has to watch out for Grass Knot, and even Dazzling Gleam.

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Groudon is a tanky, powerful attacker for this raid. It can rock Xurkitree's world with Precipice Blades, and takes its Electric Type moves like a champ. However, it's got the same issue as many of the other attackers on this list; watch out for Dazzling Gleam, and especially Grass Knot.

shadow-rhyperior Shadow Rhyperior
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Rhyperior is a great attacker, but primarily when throwing rocks around. for Ground Type damage, it's definitely a decent option, but ironically it's potentially pretty glassy here despite its high bulk and double-resistance to Electric Type attacks. This is primarily  due to the fact that Grass Knot can deal huge damage to it in a single hit.

Good Counters

Excadrill Excadrill
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Just like Shadow Excadrill, the vanilla version has a great set of resistances and great power that makes it a very worthwhile option for this raid.

Landorus (Therian Forme) Landorus (Therian Forme)
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

A power-house that trades some of its Electric resistance for neutral damage from Grass Knot.

Mamoswine Mamoswine
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Most players probably still have a small army of Mamoswine from the days when it was one of the best Pokemon in the game, so the mere cost of a few TMs is all that it takes to bring them back for a new purpose.

Garchomp Garchomp
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Garchomp laughs at Xurkitree's Electric Type movesets and doesn't flinch when facing Grass Knot, but it doesn't appreciate Dazzling Gleam.

Landorus (Incarnate Forme) Landorus (Incarnate Forme)
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Identical to the Therian forme, but a bit weaker.

Shadow_Donphan Shadow Donphan
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
ShadowFlygon Shadow Flygon
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Garchomp, but a bit weaker.

Shadow Mewtwo Shadow Mewtwo
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Yes, Shadow Mewtwo can break through despite not having any Ground Type coverage.

Shadow Ursaluna Shadow Ursaluna
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Ursaluna may not have a Ground Type Fast move, but it's still worthwhile.

Shadow-Golem Shadow Golem
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
Rhyperior Rhyperior
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
shadow-regigigas Shadow Regigigas
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

If you don't have Hidden Power Ground on your Shadow Regigigas, then it's not worth using here. It's not the best even with the right Hidden Power type, but it's useable.
