Nothing matters any more!
With the new rework I'm getting the sad feeling that nothing in this game matters anymore.
Coins don't matter anymore. Collecting 50 per day is easy as anything; if you're not collecting 50 you're doing something wrong. Even if you've earned coins, what do you spend them on? Nothing in the shop seems attractive to buy, maybe only raid passes but that will soon lose its novelty once we've taken down all of the Tier 4s 20x times or more. Once that gets old and boring... what next? Eggs/incubators don't matter any more. Once a source of candy/rare mons, egg hatching has been replaced by raids. Why walk 10 klicks to hatch a level 20 pre-evolution form when you can just catch one outright in 5 minutes? That brings me next to..... Raids make mon rarity a thing of the past.... rarity doesn't matter any more. Yesterday I caught 2 T-rex raid bosses and a Lapras, maybe today I will do some others. It would be funny to see people with a pokedex showing 1k Tyranitars caught by the end of July. But actually, it may be fun now.... but what's the use of these high CP mons? CP doesn't matter any more, in fact it is probably better to have a medium-low CP mon defend a gym so that you get your coins back. In attack, high CP mons don't matter either, unless you're a level 36+ trying to solo a Tier-3 raid boss (which actually might just be the only challenge left in the game) In fact, leveling up doesn't matter any more. Game is for casuals only at this point. Why buy Lucky Eggs to level up when you get exactly the same rewards as other guys? Same coins everyday, same raid bosses taken down, same everything. Types and counters don't matter anymore. The only thing worth doing is raiding high value mons for TMs... but any group of 8+ players however poorly constituted seem to be able to deal huge amounts of damage to any Tier 4 raid boss. I've seen Golems/Charizards attacking a Vaporeon, Eggs attacking a Tyranitar, Machamps attacking into Alakazam. As long as the lobby is filled with 7+ players it is a sure win. Bring Caterpie/Weedle, for all I care. In fact in these situations I prefer to use my 3k Blissey to save potions at the end. It's fun to keep dodging to see all the mons that players line up in raids and I can tell you, it's eye-opening. But it doesn't matter because as long as you have enough numbers you can win! Potions and revives don't matter anymore because I can generally use 1 or 2 dragonites to take down any gym. It's even worse when motivation is at 25% or less, it becomes a total joke at that point. And raid bosses give you 15-20 revives, are you kidding me? I hardly need to use any nowadays, let alone 15. Pokeballs, Ultra balls, etc all don't matter anymore. Because if you succeed in a raid you get Free Premium Balls, just like that! And Golden Raspberries too! Stood next to a level 27 player who caught his first Lapras with his first throw.... he was surprised it was so easy. So why painstakingly collect hundreds of Ultras, when they give you Premiums for free? Catching doesn't matter anymore. Nowadays you wait for events to play the catching game. Why catch caterpies, weedles, rattatas etc and get normal experience, when in 2-3 weeks time you get to catch exotic species with better XP/dust/whatever gain? However, generally whatever you catch is gonna suck because.... IV doesn't matter anymore. Before the rework all of us who were lucky enough to get perfect/close to perfect mons had high gym placement to show for it.... now it works against us in Defence! And the raid system has made high IV powerful mons commonplace. Maybe the only remaining challenge in the game is to collect high IV/CP attackers to solo Tier 3. But to what end? It's not like you get a badge for doing so.For me the game has completely collapsed and feels really empty at this point. Surely there has to be something better for higher level players to enjoy without dumbing down the game to nursery level??
Wonder if anyone feels the same way.

You're absolutely right. This game lost its excitement. I guess Niantic didn't think through this update. Now they made it a total mess. In fact, many future updates are ruined as well.Like trading, who would want to trade Pokémon when everyone has everything? They need to fix this as soon as possible:
- At present, you need your Pokémon to be kicked out of the gym to get your coins. This is totally ridiculous. This is the worst part of the update. This needs to be fixed.
- CP wise gym position has to be reinserted. The current method is dumb. CP wise gym position will keep values of CP and IV. And if everyone is too worried about Slaking, there's a solution for that too. Niantic will just not give Slaking any quick moves, that's it. It will keep his old ability to balance the battles. It has super high CP but it has to wait untill its meter charges to use a move. Just like all the other Pokémon games have balanced Slaking, Pokémon GO will balance it easily. And so my opinion is CP wise gym position is the best method.
- PvP battles need to be brought. That is the best way to get the excitement back.
- Currently, gym attacking is completely worthless. Why would you work so hard to attack a gym when you don't get any reward for that? And why would you attack a gym to help others get their coins? So, some coins should be awarded for taking down gyms.
- Premier balls have a very high catch rate. So catching raid boss is just too easy. So, the catch rate of premier balls should be decreased to lower than an ultra ball. This would actually be a great step to fix the game. This will make catching wild Pokémon easier than the raid boss. But premier balls will still have its value as rare Pokémons are easy to find in raid battles and premier balls will still be the only ball to catch raid bosses. And raid battles will still have its value for its rewards. So this step must be taken.
These are the possible steps for Niantic to fix the mess they've made. What do you say?
The new system is perfect why? Spoofers, spoofers is the biggest single problem this game has had since day one. As long as there are sooofers nothing mattered EVER, anyone who spoofed could have had whatever rare pokemon he wished, and it fact did, they could tear down and build gyms from their home, they could collect 100 coins everyday just logging in once a day. This needed to be handled, the new system actually surprised me in how good of a answer it is. What you guys need to realize is what matters most is that more people play the game and have something to look forward which is happening now.
The new system discourages "color zones" by making people dependant on other teams to collect coins that is, if you don't wanna have to tear down your own gym with another color account everyday to collect. Gone are the days of blissey towers that locked down most of legitimate players outside...gym variety is a thing now and the fact that you can leave any mon inside makes it easier for someone to tear it down so you can collect. You just need one gym 8h20m to collect the max so there's not much point in holding several gyms, you may waste a lot of time if more than one of your gyms gets tore down the same day...it's glorious...I agree there's less challenge now, but spoofers ruining it for other players needed to be handled first, then can come PVP or some other form of competitiow . Now spoofers don't have that much advantage over regular players, they have a chance to catch up.
Forgot to mention, the new time limits for placing gym defenders also deals with the scumbags sho took down people from their own team to get on the top with high CP (usually bad defender pokemon)
And yes attacking gyms helps players help others so they help you as well.
I'm not a super knowledgeable player but have definitely been a dedicated player and I too have grinded, walked, hoped and strived for the best move sets, hatches and IV. I'm half way through level 33 and I agree the fun has gone out of goals in game. But some of the tones in this thread are very superior sounding and just because I'm not level 38 or whatever doesn't mean I wasn't competitive. I have appreciated all the help I've had via this forum and learnt a lot. But please appreciate the fact that for some of us who don't live in cities we can't even get the opportunity to do level 4.raids let alone get 67 rare candies so for now I'll just keep buddying my 3rd dragonite who was hard won.
I never said that taking out duplicate Pokémon from gyms is a bad idea. It was a very good step taken by Niantic. But since you're too worried about spoofers, they still have an advantage over legal players. They can join more raids from their home and get more rewards. What I was saying was the new raid battle and the new gym system took away a lot of excitement. Since gym battling, egg hatching, walking etc are pretty much worthless now. So niantic needs to do something to make them valuable again.
Can we just acknowledge for a moment that level 4 raids are only feasible for people who play in groups and people who live in high activity areas. For the rest of us, a level 4 raid is pretty much a pipe dream. As far as I am aware there have only been two level 4 raids in my small town. The first one I was the only one there. The second one I couldn't attend, but I would be surprised if there was enough people there to take it down.
So getting numerous Tyranitars and Snorlaxes isn't really feasible for a lot of us.
Aside from that, I do agree that it is far too easy for far too many to get those previously rare mon. Raids are cool, but you should not be able to get something like Tyranitars from them.
BlueSwan, I really sympathise with your situation. I really think rural players have been shafted big time by the update. Now, low level city players (as long as they bring themselves to a L4 gym) have practically unlimited access to high level mons, while rural players like yourself are being cut off from this supply. It's not fair.
For me the biggest problem is the inability to recall your 'mon at will.
I have no incentive to keep a 'mon in a gym for more than 9 hours, and if that mon happens to survive for more than 24 hours it's actually doing me a DISSERVICE.
A game where I'm actively rooting AGAINST my own pokemon is seriously screwed up.
