PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Fury Cutter and X-Scissor offer the highest DPS when facing Psychic, Dark, and Grass-types
  • Bullet Punch and Iron Head are the preferred set for dealing with Rock, Ice, and Fairy-types
  • Night Slash is underwhelming; a three charge move with a longer cooldown and does not benefit from STAB, only offering additional Ghost coverage

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • Bullet Punch is superior to Fury Cutter on defense.
  • X-Scissor is clearly superior to Night Slash; both are three charge moves with similar DPS, but the latter's cooldown is significantly longer, making it easier to take advantage of dodge windows.
  • Iron Head is often better than Night Slash, offering higher DPS at a shorter cooldown despite being a two-bar charge move, although the latter offers wider type coverage.

PVE Overview

Scizor has okay-ish ATK and DEF stats, but is held back from true greatness by lackluster offensive typing, which relegates this Pokemon to a Psychic or Fairy-killer niche.

Defensively, Scizor's decent bulk and Steel-typing offer many resistances, but Fire is a common move type on many raid bosses, exploiting its glaring double weakness.

All-in-all, Scizor is not a great investment, though keeping one around might me a good idea as Mega Scizor is on the horizon.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Fury Cutter or Bullet Punch + Night Slash and Iron Head or X-Scissor

Fury Cutter (2 DPT, 4 EPT) is generally preferred over Bullet Punch (3 DPT, 3.5 EPT) for its higher energy generation and more appropriate coverage, though the latter sports superior damage output. 

X-Scissor is almost always preferred due to its low 35 energy cost, and benefits from STAB. Iron Head takes advantage of STAB and is also the hardest-hitting charge move available to Scizor. Night Slash provides extra coverage, and even though it doesn't hit very hard, it's extremely quick at only 35 energy. 

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 2 / 5

Scizor is the offensive version of Forretress, trading away durability for more offensive options, which include much faster, low energy-demanding moves. This enables Scizor to apply more shield pressure with very frequent charge move usage, though the lack of bulk results in more losses in neutral fights such as against Blastoise. To add more salt to the wound, the tankiness difference between Scizor and Forretress becomes more apparent when Scizor begins to lose certain matchups that Forretress would win, like versus Umbreon and Deoxys Defense Forme. Overall a really cool looking Pokemon that still bugs Grass-types, but maybe leave it to its niche PvE roles. As a side note, due to Scizor's low bulk, it really REALLY hates its only weakness to Fire. For example, Fire Spin Charizard actually melts Scizor before it even gets an opportunity to use Blast Burn. 

Ultra League: 2.5 / 5 

With a higher CP cap in Ultra League, Scizor gets to utilize its offensive potential more. While it deters Psychic and Grass, though, a lack of sufficient durability and relatively low power moves prevent Scizor from obtaining a higher rank. Interestingly enough, even with Night Slash and the Steel typing, Scizor still loses most of the time against either form of Giratina depending on movesets and shields. There are better Steel-types out there.

Master League: 1.5 / 5

Scizor's max CP of 3001 is somewhat inadequate when considering its competition in Master League. Bug and Steel coverage offensively is almost useless in this league, where Dragons and Steel-types are ubiquitous and dominating. Scizor get some points for wins against common Fairy-types, but losses against most of the meta discourages its use.
