Overview

Shadow Entei can definitely be a dangerous boss to face down. It has a few pretty dangerous moves, and can really go on a rampage if enraged, making this a potentially difficult rage. However, having a weakness to both of the Primals is definitely pretty painful for it, as the base DPS of many of its top counters go well beyond Duo-level, especially in rainy weathers.

Approach

Team composition

  • The counters here are a war between Water, Ground, and Rock Types:
    • Water has the strongest single counter with Primal Kyogre, and a few extremely strong Water Types can round out the team to make this arguably the strongest option in many cases.
    • Ground has Primal Groudon, which tends to be a bit behind Primal Kyogre in this case. To make up for this, its non-Mega/Primal options tend to hit genuinely hard.
    • Rock falls behind a bit, but has the advantage of being able to throw around some of the strongest non-Shadow/non-Primal/Mega Pokemon on the list, meaning the top counters tend to be easier to obtain than the top Ground or Water Types. It also has Shadow Ramparados, which is the single highest DPS option for this raid barring the Primals, though it is pretty frail.

Dodging

Most of Entei's counters resist the majority of its moves, so they won't need to dodge unless low on HP and close to the next Charged Move. The most dangerous move that Entei can throw out is Scorching Sands, which is generally good to dodge.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Supreme Mega Evolution Counters

Primal_Kyogre Primal Kyogre
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Primal Kyogre doesn't worry about literally anything that Shadow Entei can throw at it (save MAYBE Scorching Sands), and drops absolutely devastating damage in response. This monster is the king of DPS and TDO alike in this raid, and is definitely a major priority.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
Primal Groudon Primal Groudon
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Primal Groudon easily rivals Primal Kyogre, upheaving the land with its sheer power and sporting similar resistances thanks to its Fire sub-typing. The reason that its average performance tends to fall below Primal Kyogre is the fact that it is weak to Scorching Sands, meaning there's a chance that it will fall faster than average.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: Scorching Sands

Good Mega Evolutin Counters

Mega Swampert Mega Swampert
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While not as strong as Primal Groudon, Mega Swampert is still very much capable of performing for this raid. It's a power-house Water Type that is a great backup option if Primal Kyogre isn't available.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
Mega Garchomp Mega Garchomp
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The silver medal holder of Dragon and Ground alike, Mega Garchomp can do a great job of countering Shadow Entei, and it doesn't really even fear what Shadow Entei can do in response.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses:
Mega Blastoise Mega Blastoise
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Not quite as good as Mega Swampert, but still good.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
Mega Diancie Mega Diancie
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Diancie is arguably the best option if you know that your raid group is running a lot of Rock Types, as it will provide boosts and deal great damage in these cases. However, it falls behind the Primals substantially while also fearing Scorching Sands and especially Iron Head.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head (2x), Scorching Sands
Mega Tyranitar Mega Tyranitar
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While it lacks Mega Diancie's raw DPS, Mega Tyranitar sports substantially higher TDO and a lack of a relevant double-weakness for this raid that keeps it competitive.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head, Scorching Sands
Mega Rayquaza Mega Rayquaza
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While it doesn't deal Super Effective damage, Mega Rayquaza's sheer power allows it to show up as a worthwhile non-type-boosting Mega. It also has the advantage of double-resisting Scorching Sands.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Scorching Sands (2x)
  • Weaknesses: None
Mega Aerodactyl Mega Aerodactyl
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The biggest boon of Mega Aerodactyl is the fact that it's one of the only counters that actually resists Scorching Sands. It falls a bit short of the above, but it does have its utility.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Scorching Sands
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head
Mega Gyarados Mega Gyarados
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Basically a worse Mega Swampert, Mega Gyarados has high bulk to stay in the game. But it is the weakest of the "good" Water Type Mega Evolutions, to be sure.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None

Supreme Counters

shadow_rampardos Shadow Rampardos
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Ramparados has the highest DPS outside of the Primals, but it's also pretty frail, so dodging is a must. Also, keep an eye out for Iron Head and Scorching Sands.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head, Scorching Sands
Shadow_Kyogre Shadow Kyogre
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Kyogre is pretty much the best overall counter for this raid, sporting an amazing mix of DPS and TDO that can quickly nut huge gashes into Shadow Entei's HP bar without much of an issue.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
Shadow Groudon Shadow Groudon
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While a bit beneath Shadow Kyogre due to a lack of resistances, Shadow Groudon still puts up a major fight.

  • Strengths: None
  • Weaknesses: None
Shadow Garchomp Shadow Garchomp
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Despite not sporting the typical Water or Rock typing, Shadow Garchomp's Dragon typing gives it a resistance to Shadow Entei's Fire Type movesets, which makes it an outstanding counter when combined with its huge damage output. All of these factors come together to make Shadow Garchomp one of the better Shadow Entei counters.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: None
shadow-rhyperior Shadow Rhyperior
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Rhyperior is a great tank with high DPS, but its weaknesses to Iron Head and Scorching Sands brings it down a bit in the TDO area.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head, Scorching Sands

Good Counters

ShadowSwampert Shadow Swampert
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

One of the best non-Mega Water Type attackers for this raid, Shadow Swampers sports very high damage but is a bit on the frail side. Regardless, it's an outstanding partner to Primal Kyogre that can quickly strip Shadow Entei of its HP with ease.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While its average DPS is below Shadow Swampert, Kyogre's higher TDO largely keeps it competitive for this raid.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Unfortunately, Groudon is definitely a downgrade when compared to Shadow Garchomp, but it's still got solid power that makes it a great option for tearing down Entei.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: Scorching Sands
shadow_excadrill Shadow Excadrill
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Excadrill has solid DPS, but its TDO is pretty low due to its near-comprehensive list of weaknesses.

  • Strengths: Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Scorching Sands
ShadowTyranitar Shadow Tyranitar
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

A strong option thanks to the Shadow boost, Shadow Tyranitar is definitely one of the strongest Rock Type attackers in the game. It has to beware of both Iron Head and Scorching Sands, but it still puts in great work.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head, Scorching Sands
Rampardos Rampardos
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While no longer quite as comparatively powerful as it once was, Rampardos is still a glass-cannon with very high DPS despite lacking a Shadow boost. It works well against Fire Type movesets, but must beware of Iron Head and Scorching Sands.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head, Scorching Sands
Shadow Feraligatr Shadow Feraligatr
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While not quite up to par with Shadow Swampert, Shadow Feraligatr is still an outstanding Water Type starter that can put in work as a vanilla Water Type.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
Shadow_Crawdaunt Shadow Crawdaunt
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Crawdaunt is glassy, but also has high DPS to make it worthy of consideration.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
ShadowSwine Shadow Mamoswine
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Mamoswine has amazing DPS that puts it in the highest echelon of attackers for this raid, but its weakness to Entei's Fire Type movesets and Iron Head make it very frail. This alone makes it less viable than the Supreme counters, but it's still a decent option if you just want sheer Damage output and don't mind dodging.

  • Strengths: None
  • Weaknesses: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
Shadow-Golurk Shadow Golurk
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Golurk doesn't have any particular matchups that it does or doesn't want, but it's still a good option for pretty much any moveset.

  • Strengths: None
  • Weaknesses: None
Greninja Greninja
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

The current king of the Water Type starters, Greninja actually has the sheer power to be at least somewhat competitive with the Shadow starters.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
Excadrill Excadrill
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Excadrill fears everything that Entei can throw at it save Iron Head, so it's a risky pick for this raid.

  • Strengths: Iron Head
  • Weaknesses:  Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Scorching Sands
ShadowGyarados Shadow Gyarados
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While a bit low on the power-scale, Shadow Gyarados has the advantage of resisting everything that Entei can possibly throw at it, including a double-resistance to Scorching Sands.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head, Scorching Sands (2x)
  • Weaknesses: None
Rhyperior Rhyperior
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Rhyperior is a tank of a Pokemon that excels when Entei is packing a Fire Type Charged Move, but it doesn't do as well against Iron Head and Scorching Sands.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head, Scorching Sands
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
  • Weaknesses: None
tyrantrum Tyrantrum
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While a bit low on the power side, Tyrantrum is still a fine choice that has the advantage of double-resisting Fire Type attacks. Just watch out for Iron Head and Scorching Sands.

  • Strengths: Fire Spin (2x), Fire Fang (2x), Flamethrower (2x), Fire Blast (2x), Overheat (2x),
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head, Scorching Sands
aero Shadow Aerodactyl
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: None
Terrakion Terrakion
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Strengths: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat
  • Weaknesses: Iron Head, Scorching Sands

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Strengths: Scorching Sands (2x)
  • Weaknesses: None

If it deals at least neutral damage with Psystrike, you can bet that Shadow Mewtwo will show up somewhere on our guides!

  • Strengths: None
  • Weaknesses: None
Mamoswine Mamoswine
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
  • Strengths: None
  • Weaknesses: Fire Spin, Fire Fang, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Overheat, Iron Head
