Overview
Regigigas... is not an easy raid. This thing has one weakness and a 50% chance of packing a move that counters that type. It also has the attack with the single highest base damage in the game, which has almost all of its staticular negatives ignored when used by a raid boss, and that move is also very hard to evade. The main saving grace of this fight is the fact that all of its moves are single-bar, so you should have some breathing room between the heavy blows. All of that said, Regigigas is actually very much doable, as many of its counters hit it very hard, especially in Cloudy weather. This is a raid that will take a bit more skill and raw power to take down efficiently... either that or just throw more bodies at it.
Approach
Team composition
- Fighting Types are your best friends, and they stand head-and-shoulders in front of all other types for this raid
- If you're bad at dodging, then aim for moveset-specific resistances or go full-DPS since a lot of Pokemon are likely to drop to a single Charged Move.
- If you're good at dodging, try to weave in a few bulkier options to increase your longevity.
- Bring in your Mega Evolutions at the start of the fight to ensure that they can boost the team for the maximum amount of time, or switch one in as soon as Regigigas launches one of its Charged Moves.
- A duo utilizing nothing but Mega Evolutions and Max Revives is possible, though resource-intensive
- Remember that Hidden Power is always Fighting Type when used by a Raid Boss! Several of Regigigas' top counters don't really like dealing with Fighting Type moves!
Dodging strategy
- Dodge what you can! The least threatening move is Thunder, and even it hits like a truck. Giga Impact in particular is likely to flatline just about anything that it hits and is hard to dodge, to stay aware!
- Know when to let a Pokemon faint. If it's unlikely to reach another Charged Move and Regigigas' next big hit is looming near, let it faint and move on to the next Pokemon to keep from dragging down your DPS.
Best Raid Boss Counters
Supreme Mega Evolution Counters

Counter | Focus Blast | Best |
Mega Blaziken hits like a truck and spreads a Fighting Mega Evolution boost while on the field, meaning it's one of the absolute best counters for this raid. Its one down-side is the fact that it has no resistances and is weak to Zen Headbutt, but it's still easily one of the best counters to bring to this raid.
Good Mega Evolutions

Double Kick | Focus Blast | Best |
The original Fighting Type Mega in Pokemon Go, Mega Lopunny was never great, but it's a good option for a budget-Mega! It can put in some real work, but note that it's weak to both of Regigigas' Fast Moves and Focus Blast, and will fold fast to Giga Impact while also taking a huge chunk of HP from Thunder.
It's a risky Mega, but it's generally better than no Mega at all.

Counter | Focus Blast | Best |
Psycho Cut | Focus Blast | Good |
While not a Fighting Type itself, Mega Alakazam has a sky-high Attack stat and a good Fighting Type moveset, meaning it's actually got the second-highest DPS among the currently available Fighting Type Mega Evolutions. Not only that, it also resists both of Regigigas' Fast Moves, so it's pretty much guaranteed to reach the big 'mon's Charged Moves... which it will probably fold like a piece of paper to if it takes the hit, only maybe surviving a direct hit from Focus Blast thanks to its Fighting resistance.
That said, we have to rate Mega Alakazam under Mega Lopunny in most cases due to the fact that it doesn't spread a Fighting Type Mega Boost. This matters less with fewer players, though.
Supreme Counters

Double Kick | Sacred Sword | Best |
The Fighting King, Terrakion comes in strong in this raid and sports a resistance to Giga Impact.... but it's also weak to both of Regigigas' Fast Moves and Focus Blast. But don't let this deter you, as Terrakion will definitely cause some severe pain to Regigigas while it's on the field!

Counter | Dynamic Punch | Best |
One punch good, four punch better!
Shadow Machamp is the true vanilla of the top Fighting Types, and that's not a bad thing. It doesn't like Zen Headbutt, but overall it has stellar performance that shouldn't be underestimated.

Low Kick | Sacred Sword | Best |
This little Mythical Pokemon has all of the power of Terrakion, but it's not quite as good at kicking so it falls a bit short. Watch out for Zen Headbutt and Thunder!

Counter | Dynamic Punch | Best |
While not quite on a par with Shadow Machamp, Shadow Hariyama should not be underestimated as it still has objectively great performance.

Counter | Aura Sphere | Best |
The only non-Shadow/Legendary/Mythical Pokemon on this side of the list, Lucario still has the sheer power needed to put holes into Regigigas, and it's one of the few Fighting Types that doesn't mind Zen Headbutt. However, instead it fears Hidden Power and Focus Blast... there's always a trade-off.

Psycho Cut | Focus Blast | Good |
Yeah, Shadow Mewtwo actually prefers Psystrike for this raid... it's just that good!

Low Kick | Flying Press | Best |
This masked Luchador is viable thanks to the sheer power behind Flying Press, so if you live in Mexico or have visited recently, then it's a good Pokemon to bring along for this raid so that it can slam into Regigigas from off the top rope!

Where Machamp goes, Hariyama follows.

If you're fortunate enough to have a good Shadow Regigigas with Hidden Power Fighting, then it can work surprisingly well against its shadow-self. Just don't expect it to last an extremely long time if fighting Hidden Power or Focus Blast.

Double Kick | Sacred Sword | Best |
I'm as surprised by this one as you are! Yes, Cobalion is actually pretty good here thanks to the stellar moveset of Double Kick and Sacred Sword. Its DPS is a bit low, but it's got a decent presence on the field.

Galarian Zapdos may not be the best, but it's not a bad Fighting Type atta-aaaand it escaped the ball and ran away. Better luck next time.
