Overview
When compared to its Kanto Starter Mega contemporaries, Blastoise was forced to give up its title of "the most defense of its trio" to Mega Venusaur. That said, it's still got very high defense relative to a number of other Mega Evolutions. It's about on a par with Articuno, but without the double weakness, fewer weaknesses to exploit in general, great coverage moves, and a much higher attack stat. Fainting out is a definite threat, which can make the trio a bit risky without a full team of great counters.
Approach
- When it comes right down to it, the big question for this raid is if it's best to utilize Electric or Grass Type counters.
- Grass is doubtlessly the best option in most cases, sporting stronger resistances and better average performance, with monsters like Mega Sceptile and Kartana sporting outstanding overall performance. However, they also have a hard time facing down Ice Beam whenever it shows up.
- Electric tends to have lower average performance, with most counters ending up a bit low on the TDO-chart with a few exceptions. But the fact that they don't really care about which move Mega Blastoise uses, even resisting Flash Cannon, makes them work regardless of the situation.
- The top counters also tend to shift based on if the weather is Clear or Rainy.
Battling Strategy
- A mix of DPS and TDO is best. A large number of Pokemon are capable of reaching Trio-level DPS, but their TDO tends to be an issue.
- It's generally best to dodge if your team has proper counters

Bullet Seed | Frenzy Plant | Best |
The top DPS option for this raid, Mega Sceptile has a great average performance thanks in part to its double-resistance to Water Type moves. When Mega Sceptile hits the field, Mega Blastoise' HP bar is going to deplete very quickly, but be very weary of Ice Beam, as that double-weakness will put everyone's favorite Grass starter from Hoenn down very quickly.

Thunder Fang | Wild Charge | Best |
The top Electric Type Mega Evolution option, Mega Manectric hits very hard... but isn't up to par with Mega Sceptile. The main advantages to Mega Manectric over Mega Sceptile are if it's Rainy, if the raid group is heavily invested in Electric Types that Mega Manectric can boost, or if Mega Blastoise is packing Ice Beam.

While not the type-leader that it once was, Mega Venusaur is still a solid option for this raid that puts in the work and has high average DPS. It's overshadowed by Mega Sceptile in this raid by every metric save the fact that it only has a single resistance to Ice Beam, but it's still a great backup if you're waiting for Mega Sceptile's next Mega Evolution to cooldown and become a bit cheaper.

Volt Switch | Zap Cannon | Best |
Mega Ampharos actually has more in common with Grass Types than other Electric Types. It has a near-identical resistance/weakness profile to Grass in this raid, resisting Water while sporting a weakness to Ice Beam, but it also has the added benefit of resisting Flash Cannon. However, it also has the disadvantage of having the lowest DPS of any Mega Evolution on this list by a fair margin, making it a good but under-performing option for this raid.

Razor Leaf | Leaf Blade | Best |
Kartana is the Pokemon to bring to this raid. It has huge DPS and it only takes neutral damage from Ice Beam, which is a unique trait among the Grass Types on this list. In fact, it resists everything that Mega Blastoise can throw at it save Bite, Skull Bash, and Ice Beam, giving it outstanding average performance that eclipses the other top DPS counters. A team of Kartana is the best way to make this raid easy.

Thunder Shock | Discharge | Best |
While it doesn't quite have the advantages of its fellow Ultra Beast, Kartana, Xurkitree still hits like a truck and doesn't have any major disadvantages to speak of. Among the Electric Type counters, Xurkitree is arguably the best.

Thunder Shock | Wild Charge | Best |
While it doesn't quite have the DPS of Xurkitree, Shadow Raikou's higher average TDO makes it very competitive for the Electric crown in this raid.

Thunder Shock | Wild Charge | Best |
While generally one of the top Electric Type attackers, Shadow Electivire falls short of the other top counters for this raid due to its frailty. It's a very good option to say the least, but it's best to plan on dodging to keep it alive.

Spark | Wild Charge | Best |
The mold breaker among the Electric counters, Shadow Magnezone sports objectively great TDO thanks in part to its resistance to everything that Mega Blastoise can throw at it save Bite and Hydro Pump. Its DPS is a bit low, but is still objectively great and just short of being duo-worthy at Lv.40.

Thunder Shock | Thunderbolt | Best |
This raid isn't extremely kind to Shadow Zapdos. It's weak to Ice Beam and only resists Flash Cannon, but it still manages to keep a decent TDO ang high DPS, meaning it's still worth bringing to the raid.

Charge Beam | Wild Charge | Best |
While not as strong as the above Electric Types, Zekrom still has a strong average performance that is closer to most Grass Types due to its resistance to Water Type moves and weakness to Ice Beam.

Vine Whip | Power Whip | Best |
A strong universal Grass Type, Shadow Tangrowth's solid average performance makes it a great general pick for this raid.

Psycho Cut | Thunderbolt | Best |
It seems like this monster shows up on almost all of our raid guides, and this is no exception. Its Thunderbolt set keeps it relevant here, where it can lash out hard while not worrying too much about any move save Bite.

While not the attacker it once was, Electivire can still fry the opposition with its good average DPS.

One of the highest TDO options for this raid, Zarude is bulky and long-lasting while keeping up solid DPS.

Torterra and its Shadow forme definitely have the roughest time among the counters on this list. Not only does it have a 2x weakness to Ice Beam, it also doesn't have the normal resistance to Water Type moves that the other Grass Types above sport. In fact, it has no resistances in this raid at all, meaning its average TDO suffers quite a bit.
