Mewtwo Questions

Couldn't make my third EX Raid this morning, which is annoying me a lot more than I thought. I'm just left wondering whether this Mewtwo could've been the one with perfect IVs, but what's done is done. :/

Nevertheless, I've been holding on to my Mewtwo that I caught on my first EX Raid as a candy collector. It is 2238 CP, 86% IVs (13HP/13ATK/13DEF). My second Mewtwo was exactly the same CP as my first, but had worse IVs, so I transferred it. So far, I've accumulated 82 Mewtwo candies from rare candies, and currently have about 250k stardust.

So, if I wanted to, I could power up this Mewtwo a little over lvl 30. Ideally, I only want to power up a perfect Mewtwo, but for some reason, people did not like that last time I said that. So, after missing out on my third EX Raid, I've decided I'll be a bit more lenient with IVs for Mewtwo, but nothing less than the one I currently have won't cut it. So, I have three questions:

1) Would you power up this Mewtwo?
2) How much of a difference would this Mewtwo perform compared to a perfect one, or even a 98% one with 15 ATK?
3) Is Mewtwo useful for anything right now that powering up this 86% one would be worth the investment?

Never thought I'd be asking questions about Mewtwo myself, but thanks in advance. =]

I don't know anyone else who plays the ONLY one mon game you play. Only you can truly answer your own question.

1. I'm powering up a worse one (10/12/13) No regrets
2. You'll probably never notice the difference between 13 attack and 15 attack in real time
3. I use my PC/P Mewtwo almost daily for Machamp raids. You'd probably get even more use out of a Shadowball Mewtwo

What about 13 DEF vs 15 DEF? I know Mewtwo's defense is not its best quality, but would those two extra DEF points make a difference for Mewtwo, or is it just a marginal difference? I'm not too concerned about HP, since 13 HP and 14 HP are pretty much the same, so 13 HP vs 15 HP is just a 1 HP difference.

I feel like proficient dodging is drastically more important to survival than those extra few IVs. If you tank everything, I can see where those extra Def. and HP IVs might allow you to fire off 2 or 3 extra quick moves before fainting.

I will power up every Mewtwo I ever get. I got one. 78% IVs. It’s at 3869. Mewtwo has the highest attack in the game. A 78% mewtwo is stronger than a 100% Rayquaza. It slides in to any raid battle, and can take down any gym defenders. There is no reason why to power up anything before a Mewtwo.

I don't doubt it. But, I only want to keep one Mewtwo. A Mewtwo with 13 IV points for each stat is very tempting, as it's not too far off perfect, but in the end, it'll still feel incomplete and unsettling for me knowing I can find and catch one with better IVs. :/

(Btw, I didn't downvote your comment.)

If that had been my first Mewtwo, I would have powered it up on the spot. I think his usefulness is somewhat neutered by the absence of Gengar and Alakazam as T3 bosses, but SB Mewtwo will be very useful against the Latios/as duo.

I powered mine up as high as I could (39) and gave it FB (first CTM, didn't want to gamble further) and tried it out against Blissey; it's a powerhouse. Probably not much faster (if at all) than my maxed Machamp, but not needing to dodge DG and taking virtually no damage from ZH makes it way easier and potion-efficient.

Are any Pokemon in this game strictly necessary? No. Is Mewtwo really cool and hard to get? Yes. Are you going to see much of a performance change from a 100% vs. an 86% one? No. I think you should power it up.

Believe me, I want to power up this Mewtwo very badly. For an 86% Mewtwo, 13 IV points for each stat is actually pretty good, and not too far off perfect. But, I feel like if I do, it'll feel incomplete to me knowing I can find one with better (or perfect) IVs in the future. Also, I only want to have one Mewtwo, as I don't want to have duplicate legendaries. I want to make sure that the Mewtwo I power up is the one I keep and am completely content with. I just don't really know atm. Will have to think hard about this one tonight. Thanks for your advice! :D

I understand the hesitancy. I got extremely lucky today with my first Mewtwo and don't anticipate seeing a better one, ever, so there was no question on whether or not I would power mine up. If it had been like 70%...I would have been a bit more on the fence. I think you'll enjoy playing with it once it's maxed out, and that's the whole point - to have fun. :-)

First of all I can't believe you transferred one! If it was the same CP, but with worse overall IVs, that probably means it's attack was higher... I hope that wasn't the case. At the very least I'd have waited for a double candy event to transfer one.

Anyway, that aside, I find myself in a very similar situation. I've done 2 Mewtwo raids, and mine are both worse than yours, both with 11 attack. I've not powered either up yet. I'm still hopeful of getting a better one. If I had a 13-13-13 one... I think I'd still be holding off. I'd maybe go to level 30. I'm not necessarily looking for a perfect IV one, but probably one with 15 attack. I'd want to know I was at least getting best possible DPS before dumping ~250 rare candies on one. But then I don't really spend money on the game, so raid passes, and thus rare candies, are not something I'm rolling in.

If memory serves me well, I believe the Mewtwo I transferred had the same IV percentage (86%), but a worse stat distribution (15HP/13ATK/11DEF). But, yeah, I probably should've waited for a double candy event to transfer it lol.

I'm also hoping that I can find and catch one with 15 ATK, but certainly with better IVs than the one I currently am holding.

That's rough that you missed out on three EX raids, so I'm sorry that happened to you. I know how it goes though, and sometimes the timing just doesn't work out.

That said, knowing that you're only looking to power up one of each Mon, I'm curious about the following:
1 - what was the span of time between these last three EX invites? A month? Three months? Five months?
2 - do you feel like you are currently in need of a Mewtwo? It's a good Mon for filling out a spot in a raid roster (confusion/shadow ball) or tearing up gyms (confusion or psycho cut/focus blast), but tends to fall short of specialists who can deal SE damage.

If you've been getting EX passes somewhat frequently (and you're still raiding EX locations regularly) and you have enough specialists to cover meta relevant fights, then I'd actually say go ahead and wait to see if you snag a better one.

The first EX raid I did was back in October, which netted me an 82% Mewtwo. The week after I got an invite to the same location and got a 71% Mewtwo. My third EX invite wouldn't happen until mid January. I was tempted to power up the 82% one for quite awhile, just because I really wanted to fight with it. Why? Because Mewtwo. But like you, I have a self-imposed rule that I will only ever power up one of any given legendary. I'm glad I waited, because on that third EX raid in Jan, I was able to snag a 98% Mewtwo with perfect ATK/HP (and on the last ball, too).

So my advice is this: if you feel you need one now, go ahead and power it up! Mewtwo's base stats are nuts, so a 13/13/13 will perform exceptionally well. But if you think you can be patient (and continue getting EX invites), then I'd wait to see if you can snag a better one. Especially if you're only ever going to power up one. No king rules forever, so eventually Mewtwo will phase out from EX raids and be replaced with something else (maybe Arceus?). If you think you can really be patient, you could wait til then to decide which one you'd like to power up.

Damn, congrats on your 98% Mewtwo!! :D

1) My very first EX Raid was actually quite recent, on February 10, so a few weeks ago. My second EX Raid came a week later after my first one. And, then last week, I received my third EX Pass for February 26, which I was unable to make. So, I've been getting them on a weekly basis since the EX Raid Pass wave glitch came.
2) I don't exactly need Mewtwo, as I already have plenty of Pokémon that can sweep gyms or perform well in raids. But, Mewtwo is my most desired and favorite Pokémon, so it's more about me just really wanting a Mewtwo with IVs I will be completely content with and having one to lead my attacking lineup.

I definitely agree with you. I'm very much inclined to wait for a better one, if I get lucky enough, especially with this kind of frequency of EX invites. It's just that missing a Mewtwo raid annoyed me more than I thought it would, and made my patience run kinda low, so I decided to ask for advice on here before I did something hasty and regretful with my resources. Thanks to your advice and everyone else's, I've calmed down a bit. I think I'll try to remain patient for a better one. I appreciate your response! :)

I partly regret not waiting. My 1st Mewtwo came on the 18th December with 76% IV 12/11/11 and waited a month until I caved in and powered it to lvl 30 and loved it in my gym sweeping team.(Btw IVs on powerhouse like mewtwo are overrated my 12atk would deal 1% less dmg per strike then a 15atk so...) thing is that I also hate seeing duplicates in my top 12 and this February I’ve received 3 ex invites and all 3 are better IVs haha.

Frieza is 12/11/11 76% IV lvl 30 with over 5k wins, hesitant to max my 96 because of these 3 ex invites in February, might be on a roll though no invite for 9/10 March so not a good start
