Hows everyone event gone so far
Seeing dratini every where's been, at least to me, a highlight, With palkia being in raids, and the relative nonexistence of the species normally, having them appear en mass is fantastic. I went out for maybe a 20 or so minute walk, and wound up finding 5 of them. No shiny spoink, but got another shiny growlithe before the spawns were seemingly reduced.
Hows everyone's event hauls coming?

Same here. With the movepool additions, im going to be looking for some PvP suicune and hoping to get some (more) great lucky dratini, and some lucky nubs for the CD
Sadly I didnt get a shiny feebas like most, so im hoping this will let me get a shiny lucky
Lucky budew, that's a real prize with roserade-grassknot,
There are plenty of bonuses that are still somewhat relevant to most hardcore players, or would at least hit a portion of hardcore players who have a particular playstyle and this event including very few of them is a legitimate criticism in my opinion. Some ideas:
-bonus stardust
-quests that award ultra rares that are hard to catch a lot of normally/hard to get with good IVs
-quests that award rare species with a shiny chance
-more than one special trade per day
-featuring more wild species with a relatively rare shiny (niantic picking electabuzz over growlithe for this event's "tiger" sucks)
-a more relevant exp bonus
Can someone explain the Growlithe thing to me? I keep seeing it everywhere and it makes zero goddamn sense. It's Pokedex category is literally "puppy," that's about the least feline thing you can pick. There's also the below tidbit about Electabuzz, taken from Bulbapedia:
"Electabuzz is likely based on the Japanese oni that was a horned ogre that wore tiger skin and was sometimes depicted as a god of lightning and thunder. Its tail looks like that of a tiger."
I guess it's the coloring, orange and black, even though it's obviously canine. Like you say, Electabuzz is more of a tiger, but it's not like they didn't take liberties with the other species. I'm just saying Growlithe would've made the event better as far as boosted spawns for potential shiny species go, because I think the current lineup on that front is kind of lackluster, and I'm not even a shiny hunter.
I don't know, the only other species that seems like a questionable pick is Miltank over Tauros but that's likely because of the regional thing. Beyond that and Electabuzz everything else fits as presented, and even Electabuzz makes some sense when you know where its design origin stems from. I do wish Growlithe was involved somehow, maybe replacing Poochyena.
What they should have done was make Electabuzz's shiny available in the wild for the duration of the event. It's already available in-game via Elekid, flipping the wild switch alongside boosted spawns would entice a lot more people to hunt them.
"Oh, whooptie-do. Want a medal?"
Dude, back off. OP asked how the event was, poster replied that because of his situation, wasn't that great for him. No reason to trash him for it.
Plenty of people are level 40, and get nothing from an XP boost (at least until they raise the level cap). Gonna smack talk all of them too? Chill out.
I specifically said "How informative". I was referring to the fact that if you already have practically everything, of course you're not going to need any more, which means you're not going to get much from the event, which in turn means that the opinion of the people *in* that category is relevant but *obvious*. As in, the person I was commenting to didn't need to comment. They were stating the blatantly obvious.
I don't know who you've been playing with, but *trust me*. 0.001% was an exaggeration, but the vast majority of players have *not* reached level 40 with a repertoire of maxed mons to fall back on. Hell, I'm level 38 and I still know my teams are a long way from the top!
You seem to be missing the point. Only three of the mons being boosted are relevant. And of those 3, one of them only became relevant within the past couple months! So if you *do* have a bunch of these mons maxed, then you *are* in the vast minority of people with apparently millions of dust to throw around.
First off, that was an exaggeration. That should be obvious. Secondly, more exp is still relevant even to level 40 players for when they up the level cap. Which they will, because this is Niantic and they're creatively starved for how to keep the game interesting.
As for "companies", the thing is, they don't. They wicked don't. Anyone that's been playing video games for a decent length of time will tell you that *video game* companies cater to the middle ground. They don't make stuff for the newbs too often, and the don't make stuff for the hardcore people often either. You seem to be confusing normal businesses for video game businesses.
Yeah, I bet you get discounts and get treated better if you're a regular at certain places. That's what we all expect.
But that shit doesn't translate into the video game world. Never has, never will. Little thing called "mass appeal", if you've ever heard of it.
Yes it was as an exaggeration. I was simply pointing out that the majority of the regulars on here are lvl40 or very close.
I was trying to help you know your audience.
There is a MASSIVE difference between saying 'often cater to' as opposed to 'exclusively cater to'.
Why do I get the feeling I have a 16 yo trying to give me the benefit of their vast life experience?
I haven't been able to play that much yet, but so far so good.
I try to catch as many Pokemon as possible to get the extra XP (closing in on my goal of 50 million).
Seeing more Dratini is nice, but I don't really need them. Already got several Dragonite, still have many Dratini I can evolve and have over 1.600 candies.
I'm catching as many Spoink as possible, not only to try and find a shiny one, but also because I need the candy. One of my goals is to reach 1000 candies for every Pokemon (apart from legendary and really rare ones like Unown) and I still need quite a few Spoink candies.
I'm also catching Rattata because I still don't have the gold medal for tiny ones.
Will hopefully get to do some trading soon. The problem is that I'm doing a little challenge where I'm trying to get the gold Pilot badge in as few trades as possible, so I can only trade long distance Pokemon from eggs. Would have liked to be done with that one now so I can trade some more interesting Pokemon.
I'm pretty happy. The big deal for me was the increased Electabuzz spawns which helped me get the last forty or so candy I needed to take my 100% Electivire to 40: my first one! I'm not going to take advantage of the trading too much (still have guaranteed lucky spots I'm saving for specific trades) but I'm excited for the chance to get a couple shinies (Poochyena and Arcanine) that I'd missed out on.
I personally dislike the fact that we got another event so soon, it makes it so much harder to find gen 4 pokemon and none of the pokemon featured in this event are particularly desirable if you've been playing for a long time. Some of my more casual friends are happy for the Dratini spawns though and I can't fault them, Dragonite is a fantastic pokemon.
But I do like the increase to lucky chance, will take advantage of that with some of the rarer new pokemon I have saved and trying to score some more legendaries to the lucky dex.
As for progress so far, 1 out of 9 special trades of this event done. Caught some wild pokemon and deleted them.
I can agree on the events in rapid succession does get problematic, and even a little annoying.
Ive heard a lot of older players saying similar things in regards to dratini, and I can understand it. Where im from there was a park that had an inordinately large number of dratini, so most people where im from have 15 or so dragonite if they played at start. As a person who hasn't played as long, (starting right before dratini CD) I haven't gotten as much use as most, and with garchomp able to come at any time, it helps me have a bit more relaxed in having a good number of dragons so I wont feel a loss from holding onto gible or not dumping rarecandy into palkia (I have only 1 rayquaza, already maxed)
Posted this above, posting it again:
"Electabuzz is likely based on the Japanese oni that was a horned ogre that wore tiger skin and was sometimes depicted as a god of lightning and thunder. Its tail looks like that of a tiger."
At least you recommended actual felines they could have used, though Vulpix is more a fox.
