Dragonite DB/DC

Can you tell optimal cp and iv on Dragonite for taking down gym? Is Dragonite 51 iv with this moveset good? And How much should i power it up (1300+cp right now) Thank you for answer.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend powering up a 51% Dragonite.

Generally, 82%+ is a good rule of thumb for any Pokemon. Statistically, by the time you gather enough candy to evolve, you should have one in that range.

What you have right there looks to me like probably the best prestige Pokemon in the game.

I would rather have the best Prestige Pokemon than a mediocre Powered up Pokemon.

Use the candy you would have spent leveling it up and evolve another one. Ain't nothing wrong with having 2 Dragonites.

I also have found there to be value in having powerful base stat mons with lower CP's for prestiging gyms. My 333CP Snorlax gets a lot of action when I need to prestige up a gym to make an opening and someone put a 400 to 800 or so mon at the bottom. And like your Dragonite, he's got a good moveset but IV's are at a mediocre level and would take so much candy & stardust that it makes more overall sense to leave him where he is.

Best prestige Pokémon? Not even close. You need to realize that generally Pokémon that have low CP are better for prestiging and Pokémon with high CP are bad for prestiging. Dragonite has the highest CP of Gen 1. Dragonite also doesn't have any match-ups where the opponent has double weakness.

To put it into perspective, imagine attacking a 6k Snorlax with your 3k Dragonite compared to attacking a 3k Snorlax with 1,5k Wigglytuff, which would you choose?

This video shows that IV's are NOT important!
Yes if you can try to get a high iv but in the end moveset is the most important factor.

Power that dragonite to lvl 30 and stop there.
Oh and for the people saying you should invest stardust past lvl 30, it's a waste of stardust that you could havo put in another pokemon.

I wish it was as simple as that. There are places where you will always sit on the last spot of a gym if you don't power up your Pokémon past level 30.

For defense CP is important and IV is impactful. For an attacking mon IV is practically irrelevant.

There are hundreds of questions as "Which/Whether should I power" + "Dragonite/Snorlax/Lapras" on this site. I count several in just a day!

Again and again, a Pokemon is worth considering powering up only if he satisfies at least one of the following:
1) An elite attacker;
2) An elite defender;
3) Your favorite mon.

Then, you need to consider the Stardust/Candy cost against your Stardust/Candy balance AND their expected income rate.

Your Dragonite is an elite attacker, with DB/DC, one of the best move set in the current meta. So definitely worth considering.
Since I don't your other Stardust/Dratini Candy info, I can't say much. It's your own investment decision to make.

Also, decide soon. Don't the forget the time value of the Pokemon. If you decide to power him up, the sooner he can serve you in the battle the better.

661 / 661 Perfect Dragonite
654 / 661 Your Dragonite
Difference is 1,1%

What is your chance to get perfect dragonite?
What is the chance that perfect dragonite have prefered moveset?

How common are dragonites and dratini there? If I had your dragonite I know I'd be tempted to power it up. I've caught/evolved 12 and am still without a db/dc. Right now it's probably my only goal in this game. Why not power it up a bit and have fun with it?

With Dragonite's huge base stats worrying too much about IVs seems pretty pointless. The moveset is excellent and you've only got a 1 in 6 chance of rolling that moveset if you decide to invest the candy in another Dragonite.

For common Pokes and those with mediocre base stats it makes sense to only power up those with high IV's , but unless you're swimming in Dratini I wouldn't worry about the IVs that much.

I'm L33 and until last week I still did not have a Dragonite at all. Meanwhile I have come to appreciate movesets and also the strength of different mon as attackers and defenders. I decided my heart was set on getting a DB/DC Dragonite but was dreading the evolution lottery.

Then, magically, I saw my first wild Dragonite ever, caught him and it was DB/DC at 57% IV and 800's CP. Without hesitation, I used 175K dust and 172 candies to power him all the way up to 3117. And have been loving taking down gyms ever since.

Using a Dragonite for prestiging? Nah. I mean you could, but there you want to use type advantage. Dragonite can get so powerful, why not live the dream?

I powered up a 56iv to 3000cp. I didn't see much point in waiting for a different one just for some extra CP, especially for an attacker. May take weeks or months of waiting for a difference you wouldn't even notice.

It's your choice though, don't feel bad either way.

Keep this one for prestiging. It is very useful to have a DB definite for prestiging.

It would cost you a lot a candies to power it up to 3000cp and you will find a better one soon or later

Dont listen to them. Dragonite is not a prestiger. Hes a elite attacker. You have a beast , unleash it!!!

Dragonite is rare. You obviously caught it if you know about IV and its 51 %. So keep it, but don't power it up. You can use it to take down high level dragonites in friendly gyms.

DB/DC is really powerful moveset, next best moveset is around 94% of it. 50% IV is probably around 90% (TDO) of 100% IV. So, it is somewhat equal with high IV Dragonite with DB/DP.

The only dragonite I've ever caught in the wild is 62% (15/00/13). DB/DC. Caught it at around cp1600 and have steadily powered it up until it's now cp3118.

It tears through gyms. I'm glad I didn't deprive myself while waiting for another one that may not come for a long time, and even then will probably have an inferior moveset.

With base stats as high as a dragonite, the small additional percentage that comes from IV's really doesn't matter that much. Same with snorlax.

I use my Eevolution army to prestige. My attack dragon is reserved for taking down enemy gyms singlehandedly. Going into battle I don't even care what the other 5 mons in the lineup are because they rarely ever see action if the dragonite is up first.

So anyway, that's my feedback as to what you should do...
