Tier 3 solo challenges

How do Tier 3 solo challenges after the HP buff compare to those before the defensive and effectiveness rebalances?

I suppose new moves will also apply to raid bosses? Machamp's Rock Slide will hit Alakazam/Espeon/Gardevoir hard and Dragonite/Honchkrow even harder. Alakazam's Fire Punch makes Tyranitar the superior counter over Weavile (RIP Scizor).

Everything has become slightly harder, but the current hardest tier 3, Alakazam, still isn't anywhere near as difficult as it was before the rebalances last autumn. At least Claydol seems to have moved back to being downright impossible without a near optimal team or weatherboost, but it's not in raid rotation currently.

Rock Slide on a Machamp boss isn't that relevant, it hits pure psychics for less damage than Dynamic Punch or Heavy Slam did. These changes really do not affect the viability of counters much because you can generally see the boss's charge move from the autoselect and build your team accordingly.

Why would you bring Lugia against RS though? Against RS it's even easier to just bash through with the higher DPS psychics that are much more easily accessible than a powered up Lugia.

Lugia used to be a great anchor for trainers aiming at their first Tier 3 solo challenges (Machamp has always been that first milestone), as re-entry in solo challenges is a real problem if you have overall borderline TTW. The vast majority of players already have better alternatives nowadays, though.

Yeah, I know. But raids became so much easier with the autumn rebalances and a team of Espeons has always been the easiest route to soloing Machamp (that's how I first did it in summer 2017) that I really don't see how RS hitting hard against Lugia would cause actual problems for anyone.
In my opinion Lugia was always more of an expensive clutch that made sure you don't faint if you couldn't dodge that well, for whatever reason. I only powered up mine because of the 1v1 challenge, much cheaper alternatives always got the job done for me before that.
