I would say that it would - most definitely. However, I expect it would only be reasonable to assume that Pokémon that don't already have their shiny forms released would be the ones to receive community days (i.e.: not the Togepi family line). Although there's always the chance of yet another curve ball from Niantic. Since we've had an event where Breloom can learn an exclusive move, perhaps it means that despite Togetic and Togekiss already being available as shinies, there may be a future event similar to this one where it's not isolated to a "community day" but instead a set time frame.
Does Swinub getting a Comm Day change the possibility of other Item Evolution pokemon getting one?

Anything is basically possible, though I'd say fully-fledged community day events will still be reserved for those pokemon with either 3-stage evolutions or who have the popularity factor, e.g. game mascots. As such, Ralts is a likely candidate.
Others, like we've seen with Breloom and Feebas recently, may receive a feature in other events.
I'd say absolutely. More importantly, I think it dismisses two of the bigger arguments people have about Ralts not getting a potential community day:
1.) Ralts wasn't a 10k hatch (argument made less since its addition to the egg pool)
2.) Gallade will likely require an item evolution
The only variable in Ralts's case is that it has a split evolution, but still. It's getting a lot harder to rule things out for CD eligibility.
We've had the eevee line before, but i largely discount them entirely from consideration, as they are there likely for lets go eevee cross promo early on, and their move is a gimmick that rarely sees usage, gallade and gardevoir however actually have potential to be good.
There is one small thing that applies to ralts than even infinite evo items cant solve, the gender lock.
Gallade must all be male. Now this might not seem like a problem, but this does effectively half the odds of getting an eligible ralts if gallade gets a stand out move, I know a number of people that have lucky perfect/96+ females and no good males. Now this could be remadies by maybe making all ralts genderless for the event, then after it all gallage are automatically male and gardevoir go back to their original, but I think this is unlikely and a little stupid
I agree it makes the potential for one more likely, but gallade's gender lock is still a variable that applies.
I've said it before, an idea to get around that is to have research encounters during the event that reward exclusively male Ralts. Ralts also has a 50/50 gender ratio, it shouldn't be a problem for anyone to find a decent male to evolve during the event.
To put it bluntly making them genderless for four hours (after spawn hour included) is a dumb idea that wouldn't actually solve anything. It would require constant master updates at the start and stop of the event for each region that would affect everyone and wouldn't change anything for Ralts already caught, only wild ones. Think about how master changes to movesets don't affect known moves of Pokemon you already have. It would be the same thing here.
Thats what I mean, the genderless for hours would be stupid.
Male only ralts from sersearch would be a good remedy to the problem. I'm not saying ralts CD is impossible because of gallade, just that its gender lock will present a different condition that needs to be fulfilled, however that may be done and likely would mean the CD could be different than others in some ways.
What does that even mean? You are using the word "possibility" like it was an abstract concept open to personal interpretations. In the beginning there were some robust "patterns" that we could use to predict CD eligibility for different species but, as time went on, fewer of these were still eligible with each passing CD, thus effectively widening the margin by which a family line was within reasonable suspicion to be a likely CD candidate, therefore expanding the possibilities for more and more species. This ain't got nothing to do with perception, man. Them expanding their rulesets is not affected by how we perceive it not; it simply is. And the current CD announcement effectively opened the gate for stone-evolvers to also become candidates themselves. It opened up the possibility for them, so to speak ; )
For it to change, it would have to have not been a possibility before they announced it.
Just because a few were of the opinion that it was impossible, doesn't make it so.
The only people that think this 'now makes others possible' are those that thought their opinion was a fact...
It was never impossible to start with...so no change
There was a fallacy named artery this very argument but I can't recall it's name.
Anyways, the point you are missing is that your logic is the same as that from the very people your are criticizing but just landing at the opposite conclusion. Until evidence is given out against a known margin of possibility (in this case: the likelihood of a species being given a CD) it cannot be assumed that anything falling outside the known limits of a possible event can, without a modicum of doubt, be reasonably included or be eligible within those parameters.
No one thought it was "impossible," just very unlikely given the past evidence. But now we know that an assumed restriction for eligibility is not real, so we observe and learn from the event. That's how you science. Not just assuming everything is possible because you think it is. And I repeat, no one thought it was impossible, but rather no one knew that is was possible to begin with. Not the same thing, obviously.
