Phone problem

My phone always wasnt the...best when it came to playing GO, lagged every so often, but not really enough to make playing an inconvenience, only having problems with large group raids. However since PvP was added, and the most recent updates, it seems my phone crashes while playing GO a lot more often. Its a bit of a inconvenience to me and my group I raid with even in smaller groups and on community days when its most crucial to play well.

As such, I've been trying to find a phone thats cheap and also can run the game well (ie doesnt lag terribly much, wont crash catastrophically when in raids/gym/randomly).

I feel I'm almost in the same boat. Galaxy S7 here, the game worked fabulously when I first got my phone but has become increasingly frustrating to play with my phone's age. My biggest complaints are that it stutters in the most inopportune times and seems to be a bigger battery sink with each update.

I'd like phone suggestions too for down the road. I hear iPhones handle the game better than Android, though I personally avoid Apple products like the plague.

It is. Apple products also have the advantage of having much more precise clocks than most androids, which matters for PvP. My Oneplus 5 has at least 0,5s clock lag even right after restarting the device, most iPhones seem get 0,0s clock lag no matter how long they've been running.

I also had a Galaxy S7 and I really liked it. But it did seem like the game did demand more and more from the phone with each update (especially lately with PvP and other things). Still worked okay, even if there were some errors every now and then.

But I started having problems with my battery and screen so I had to get a new phone.

Got the Oneplus 6 less than a week ago and I really like it. Not the cheapest phone, but it's darn good.

I've heard that the Pocophone F1 is a good one and if it's mainly used for Pokemon, the name really suits the purpose ;)
Not too expensive, so if you're just out to get a phone to play games on, that one should be just fine. It's fast and has a strong battery.

My old MotoG 3rd generation can still handle the game properly. It doesn't crash as you describe.
I only use it as replacement phone when I run out of battery on my main (OnePlus 5).

You might try the newest MotoG 6 as a budget phone with very good performance.

For comparison, i use an iPhone 5S to play PoGo and it's a bit laggy but it's still possible to play decently. In the catch screen my phone runs smoothly but in solo raids, it struggles a bit (sometimes freezes when the raid boss uses its charged attack)
