Wigglytuff and Poliwrath as Defenders

I have a Poliwrath with Bubble/Hydro Pump and a Wigglytuff with Pound/Play Rough. Both are powered to level 30.5 and have 85% plus IV. These are rated as strong defenders but I have not been able to hold gyms with them. My other top defenders do fine but these two are knocked out quickly. Are they overrated?

Depends a lot in the pokemons in your area.

All pokemons are bad defenders. There's no gym that any level 25+ can't destroy with a little effort. This site tells you the best ones, but the attacker advantage is too big to make the best ones any good.

Exactly. It doesn't necessarily mean that a certain Pokémon is a bad defender if it can't hold a gym, because none of them can. I'm still kind of hoping that they would make attacking more difficult so there would at least be a chance to hold a gym if you put a lot of effort into it.

Wigglytuff and Poliwrath are both strong Pokémon though. Wigglytuff's biggest disadvantage in defending scenario is its low CP, it will often be the first one to get knocked out of gym. However, low CP can also be an advantage when training a friendly gym.

Even Wigglytuff is really good, the low CP makes it seem easier to take down.

Theres some about a level 10 gym with everyone above 2500 cp that makes me feel like its not worth the effort to take it down.

I, for another angle, LOVE to find level 10 gyms! I even start to count pokemons to see if I have enough to use a lucky egg. Sooo much exp for killing 5+ pokemons...
