I can’t stand this anymore. I’ve done my best to help the community, but it simply isn’t working. Like today, I raided a Heatran with my friend, L35 and L27 respectively, and there was another guy L40, he kept using stuff like Magneton and Charizard, and basically we were the only ones doing real damage. We won with 19 secs left, the boss BB/IH. Again, I don’t want to see this anymore. How, in an EFFECTIVE way, can I help the community?

I see you live in Hong Kong and so do I, so let me suggest something maybe.

Most of the issues you face playing Pokemon Go elsewhere, such as finding people to raid, is virtually not in existence in the city. Out in the outskirts is where you will encounter such problems and my suggestion would be stop raiding there.

Reasons being that this game is dominated by players at their retirement age, plus many of them outside and inside this age group have virtually no knowledge of this game on whatever level. They don't know how moves work, what DPS/TDO/EPS are, how raid bonus correlate to the numbers of ball you get. They don't know type effectiveness, STAB or any of these things. Pokemon Go is popular because it can be played with such easiness - esp, in Hong Kong you can complete everything without understanding the game at all!

If you end up having just 4 people for the raid, the chance is you are going to fail. I had experience before where 8 people raiding a Lugia last weekend was impossible to win because they are using Aggron and Cresslia for the raid (I exited and reenter, more people showed up). I honestly stopped caring about their performance a long time ago. I have failed probably 2-3 raids since its launch because of ignorance of other players and I would say that's probably much lower than people failing a raid due to the absence of sufficient numbers of player in other countries.

Thank goodness Singapore's retiree players are better informed. They are the ones going around before a raid starts, telling the younger guys what the good counters are. Hahaha! This is so weird!

Agreed. Last time 8 players were raiding a Mewtwo and won with 5 secs left because only 3-4 players were using Ttars and Dragons, rest were using Aggron and Lugia. *sigh*

Do you have some kind of local social media setup (Discord server, Facebook group, etc.)? If so, use that to educate.

Don't berate though. Educate. It helps to find others who are on the same wavelength as you that you can discuss tactics/strategies with openly, and hopefully other people will pick up on your ideas. There's normally a ton of infographics created for new bosses, so share those on the platform. Become helpful in the community in general (answering simple queries etc.) and eventually people should start asking you directly for advice.

Unfortunately though, some people just don't care and there's not much you can do about it.

I was going to type a thorough response but then I saw you play in HK... which made me backtrack in my suggestion. In the big cities there's little that you can do except getting stronger and trying to shortman your raids in private lobbies if this really bothers you. Explaining type advantages to hardcore players that have gotten through the game not knowing what they're doing is incredibly hard and frustrating. I live in a comparatively extremely rural area with unusually high PoGO activity and I have already given up on trying to explain these basic core mechanics to high-level players because they always get annoyed. It's easier to just carry people tbh and I relish in knowing I have that capacity now, especially since there's a benefit in doing so that translates to extra premier balls and a lesser urgency to waste SPBs or GRBs on legendaries. So... yeah, not an optimistic outlook in my opinion. Good luck if you do try to outreach those players and "educate" them.

A lot of people simply will not care as long as the raids are won most of the time. No matter what you do or say they will not listen, because somewhat better raid rewards are not enough of an incentive for them. Like others said, not much you can do about it. Poor game design is the real culprit here.

And not even just poor game design but the base mechanics are too complex and unrealistic to begin with. Trying to explain type effectiveness, resistances and immunities is extremely hard because of how little sense they make. Some are just plain obvious in a "rock, paper, scissors" way like how fire beats grass or why a fighting type Mon would be at a disadvantage against something that could fly. But then you have shit like psychic being weak to bugs and dragons being basically OP gods against everything but themselves, fairies and... ice for some reason. Steel's resistances are ridiculous and the logic behind dark types is just a stretch of the imagination. Retirees and newcomers don't get this and I don't blame them. Common sense gets thrown out the window on Pokemon all the time and, like you said, people don't and won't care if they can still get shit done regardless of their low performance and they are unaware of it. This happens on all games btw, it is just more blatantly obvious in mobile games like PoGO where the player base is huge and there are few opportunities for competition and even fewer reasons to optimize your play style.

Dragons are basicly lizards. Lizards are cold blooded so ice would hurt them more

You can stretch out logic however you want with a species that does not exist in real life, for sure. But if dragons existed my bet is that they would be related to dinosaurs rather than reptiles and dinos were warm-blooded. Still, try to explain why fairies beat them then! Or why Steel resists them. Nonsense conjecture I say!

Because in stories thst involve a knight going up against a dragon he has a magic (fairy) sword to kill it and some shield (steel) that resists the dragons attacks.

Plus its better to have a bunch of types that interact with each other than a type that only interact with one or two other types.

Ok, after hearing these responses, it probably should be impossible to do so. Guess I’ll move when I can.

Are you complaining about having completed a trio?

Don’t you know what symbolism means?! This means, many players out there are using Aggron everywhere, I’m just trying to express this, not the L40 guy.

What's the problem here? You decided to duo a Heatran with low level accounts, got help from someone else, and won the raid. I think the other guy probably contributed more damage than you realize.

I know I couldn’t have duoed the Heatran, ok?! I know the L40 helped quite a lot, but this is just to show the scenario for other players in HK.

I just must not understand then. Isn't the goal to win? Do the circumstances matter? If you couldn't have duoed it, does it matter since you got the trio?

Losing would have been a different issue, but in that case, couldn't you have just said "ok, let's give it another go but with more Ground/Fighting/Water up front?"

I don't understand being frustrated because your victory wasn't victorious enough.

If the other guy was actually using Charizards and Magnetons they really did not contribute much. Level 20 Rhydon would probably have been better.

Haha, I think you already helped the L40 guy. You just convinced him that 3 manning Heatran is possible, and once he tells that to his friends and they fail, they’ll know that they are using the wrong Pokémon. Plus, he probably saw what you were using in the raid, so he should know. :)
