Not sure if bug or feature

I'm afraid it might be a bug, but it is so damn useful!

I have currently no raids nearby me. My Snorlax is defending a gym that I can't see from my house (it's a 3 min drive) and I got a message that Snorlax needs a berry. I select Snorlax, hit go to gym and get the "raid in progress" indication.

Now that I exited the menu I can see what raid it is and the timer remaining. Shows up both in map as a far far away gym and in bottom-right corner menu. After I restarted the game it disappeared and I had to revisit Snorlax for the raid to re-appear.

Sounds like a bug, but wouldn't it be a cool feature?
