Did Niantic miss a trick by not having the Gen 2 starters for this holiday event?
It seems like they want to utilise the starters for the holiday event because they are hard to catch, which means you will need to buy the promo boxes in the store.
I refuse to do this. BUT
If they had introduced Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile, then I wouldn't have minded.
Is there any reason why Niantic re-used the Gen 1 starters for the holiday event rather than introduce new starters?
And please don't say "because some people haven't completed the Pokedex"...

Because a lot of people would be mad if they keep introducing mons in small packs, I am not buying a "mineral collection", I want the full gen2 released as soon as possible and see the tracker full of shadows once again, and I think that a lot of people wants the same.
Also I don't think they are ready to release them, I think Niantic is a small company, not in terms of money, probably even on workers, but it is on the way they think, work and release things on the game. They have a non existant customer service (try to send them an email), they don't listen to players and implement things when they want and how they want, look mass transfers, we were asking for it since day 1.
I am sure they have get enough money from incubators with the babies release, I really hope for the future of this game that they are not planning to release gen2 in packs or in events...
We are not getting 100+ Pokémon at once anymore.
They did that with Gen 1, and 80% of the players left after a month.
Why would they make the same mistake in future?
Nowadays, Pokémon need to be released in small batches with a purpose to catching/hatching them, so that everyone has a point to playing the game.
If they do this people will just get the new mons and leave the game again. If they make the game for casuals then they are not gonna earn money and the game will die. In those 6 months of gen1 most of people that play "normally", even only once per day, should have 90% or more of their pokedex completed.
It is impossible to make everyone happy and that everyone wants to keep playing, not gonna happen, if Niantic keeps releasing gen2 in small groups for those that open the app once per week most of players that play everyday will stop spending money and leave until they release more content.
And by content I don't mean only new mons, if they want hardcore players to keep playing the need to add pvp, trading and other features asap.
