Sinnoh stone usage, but different question
So I just got my first stone and I am thinking about waiting until the lvl 3 raids rotate. My raiding is exclusively solo unless I happen upon people and I figure I could use the stone against something my team is a little light on once they rotate. Has anyone else considered this as a strategy???

Rhyperior (Ground): Solid option against current tier 3 boss Gengar (except Focus Blast) and several harder past tier 3 bosses (Jolteon, Flareon and Ninetales), plus Raichu.
Roserade (Poison): Likely among the top counters to current tier 3 boss Granbull and if Tangela returns...
Weavile (Dark): Will be a great alternative to Tyranitar against Alakazam (probably the most popular challenging tier 3 solo), Jynx, Raichu and Starmie.
Electivire: Doubt you need to strengthen your Sharpedo solo team. Only super-effective into a few easy (except Starmie) tier 3 bosses. More relevant for gym offence.
Having just run everything through Calcy, Umbreon should be the toughest (completable) Tier 3. 6 maxed Machamps (just behind Breloom as a counter) barely eke out a win in neutral weather (despite the difficulty of accruing them, 6 Groudon clear Jolteon faster and other decent counters exist) whereas Alakazam could have 30+ seconds in neutral weather with proper counters without Weavile. Donphan, Claydol, and Tangela raids have all been made easier by the stats rework and SD Ttar/Kyogre do for Ninetails.
I did consider this strategy, and I think it's a good strategy. It's a strategy I'd recommend.
I didn't personally follow it because I see myself playing at a pretty intense (though not hard-core) level for months to come, and I expect that I'll end up with having a bunch if Sinnoh Stones that are just sitting in my inventory waiting for 100% Pokémon to evolve.
So I evolved my 98% Sneasel. I don't particularly need it right now (though if I do another Giratina raid, it will have some uses), but I just plain wanted to max out a great Weaville. It's an emotional thing - I've got a 98% Rhydon as well, and a bunch of others in the mid-90's that could use a Sinnoh Stone (as well as just hatching a 91% A15 Shiny Murkrow), but I've actively hunted for Sneasel for years because they're hard for me to catch and I get a greater sense of accomplishment for catching one. And this one was 98%.
But if I was going to recommend a strategy for the Sinnoh stone, I'd recommend your strategy.
I figure these stones are going to be a dime a dozen pretty quickly, like the gen 2 evolution items, so I say live in the now, and evolve the mon of your choice immediately. By the time the L3 raids rotate, you might have a half-dozen Sinnoh stones. At most, you have to wait a week to get one, right?
