Good decision?

I used my first Sinnoh stone to evolve a 15 13 13 Lv 32 2897 Rhydon to a Rhyperior, was it a good decision. If it was you would you have done the same?

If you like Rhyperior then it was a great decision. Personally my first Sinnoh stone will be dedicated to electivire :)

It should have been a good decision but this picture is worth 1000 words

I'm not really sure where the hype comes from. Anyway, it's a better decision than most other options. Keep in mind it's on par with tyranitar if I read it correctly. I personally wouldn't pick it as my first evolve, unless you missed out on the community day for Larvitar or if it's a personal favourite, I would have spend it on something else. E.g., Togekiss 😏

For what purpose do you use Togekiss? On defence it really doesn't matter. On attack, on what opponent do you use it? Machamp counters are abundant.

Originally solely for defense purposes, because it is a personal favourite. For the reason that candies are rare and togepi has always been a quite unique Pokemon. Furthermore, it forces an attacker to switch machamp, what I personally strong dislike.

Now that I got granted with Dragon typing Hidden power I will also use it as an attacker, because i like having alternatives.

At the end of the day no Pokemon plays a significant role anymore, except for 1 Machamp and single generalist to clear gyms. Tier 5 raids is determined by the number of players mostly. To me, only tier 3 raids make significant differences in what specie to power up.

Togekiss is a favorite here too, looking to evolve my shiny togetic soon. Hopei get lucky with hidden power

It's not really much better on defence than Gardevoir. Serves the same purpose. Maybe a bit tougher but it really doesn't matter.

I agree on the importance of Tier 3. Still some 4s and 5s play a part since sometimes we are a bit low on players. But the importance of tier 3 is my point - there are no real uses for a Togekiss ATM (apart from Machamp which should be covered by now). And we don't know what the next ones will be.

I'm not saying your decision was wrong or bad. I'm just asking what do you intend on using it. After all, the best one to evolve is the one you need the most.

Edit: I disagree with the notion that no pokemon has any importance. Some tier 3 solos and tier 4 duos require a player to have the right pokemon to succeed.

There are a lot of machamp coutners out there, but with so many out there, a little variety could be fun, and it also does everything gardevoir does on defense and more plus extra bulk and the ability to surprise metagross with hidden power type.

Thank you for your reply. My original reply was written when I was quite in a hurry so I'll do my best to be more clear on this one.

I didnt evolve togekiss for attacking purposes as I'm perfectly aware its DPS it too low compared to counter parts. What I meant was that I will use it for attacking purposes just to vary a bit with Pokemon, so more for fun basically.

I think it will serve purposes in defense, just like Gardevoir does, in the sense that it forces the attacker to switch from Pokemon which leads to precious seconds of time waste which is the entire purpose of defending gyms these days. That might prevent someone from attacking a gym every now and then.

On your "Edit" part. I fully agree, but perhaps my rush-English wasn't clear enough on that part as I was meant to say the same.

Edit: I've just read the new article on the Sinoh stones on this website and based on what I read, to me this was the best evolution based on the fact that there is no immediate need for other alternatives.

Rhyperior is a good pokemon, it's a solid choice. The best choice is the one that you like the most or that adds the most to your team.

If you don't have enough Smack Down Tyranitars, then it's a good choice. If you do, then e.g. Sneasel or Roserade would've been better choices.

What would you do with a Sneasel or Roserade at the moment though? Electivire is excellent as well, but none of them make that much of a difference right now.

Weavile is a good Giratina counter, but if you already have a team of dragons/Gengar/Mewtwo, you have no need for it. Any grass or water mon will destroy Rhyperior due to the double weakness, it's not like you need a top DPS option. Togekiss on the other hand is also soft to Metagross, Raikou and SD Tyranitar and honestly goes down fine with a Jolteon if you're pushed for counters.

Like I said, they don't exactly make much of a difference right now.

This is why it doesnt really matter at all which one you evolve. Go with your favourite I'd say.

I am thinking about using mine on this...but Niantic might release Shiny Magmar and then I will have ruined the baby

Buddy, i have bad news for you about shiny Magmar.
Hes there for few months already...

I must have missed that one...so this one never evolves then.

lol what?
The only way to get shiny Magmar and subsequently shiny Magmortar is by evolving a shiny Magby. Magmar cannot appear in the wild as shiny and (I assume) Magmortar doesn't spawn at all. You'd be one of the few with a shiny Magmortar if you chose to evolve it all the way but that's up to you.

So, it seems everything I said in the original post was accurate until people started incorrecting me.
It's been fun

Shiny Magmar is out, actually. You have to hatch a shiny Magby.

Having missed Larvitar CD & only got a couple of poor IV rock tyra's from trades this first one was a no brainer for me. Got him with double rock first go & immediately maxed him out at 3700+ cp. Not had chance to test him out as yet but pretty happy, next up probably Togekiss.

Do you like Rhyperior? The yes it was a good decision. My first Sinnoh evolve was a 15/14/14 L34 Roselia to Roserade. Sure I don't have an immediate need for it but for me the same can be said about any of the available Gen 4 evolves.

My next one I plan to evolve is a 14/15/15 Togepi. Here's hoping the resulting Togekiss gets a worthy HIdden Power type.

You can't undo it, so why second-guess whether it was a good decision?

I had a 100% Rhydon so for me it was an easy decision - he's a very solid gym clearer, good on a number of raids, and even if matched by CD Tyrannitars he's likely to be a more than usable option for a long time.
