Is Togekiss the worst defender right now?

I don't know about the rest of you, but given its rarity I feel like I'd want to attack any gym it's in to try fighting it? So until it's novelty wears off, perhaps it's more of a target than an ideal defender?

Mine lasted for 3 hours or so on its first assignment. I would also attack any gym where I saw one, but I might not keep going after the first round.

EDIT: Why the downvotes? I'm interested in seeing how Togekiss does as a defender but I also want to give other people the chance to experience the novelty.

I'm intending on maxing one out. Is it worth it? Is it a viable defender or just another garbish peace?

Is anything a viable defender? Togekiss is better than Gardevoir at forcing Machamp to change, that's about it.

Enough argument for me to max one out.

I dont really like attackers anyway. With 2 Machamp and a Mewtwo SB you're pretty much done with any gym these days. Especially after the CP change.

Depends on the attacker I guess. I would be interested in fighting it as a raid boss, but as a defender... it doesn't really matter, I mean no defender is actually challenging unless you are a new player.

For me the only motivation to attack a gym is coins and research tasks. Defenders are irrelevant, a party of top tier defenders with full motivation is between 5 and 10 minutes. Only real problem is remote golden berry feeding, but it has nothing to do with the defender anyway

It's easier to go through a Machamp or a Tyranitar 61 times before 30 minutes pass when attacking a gym, whereas you can't do that with a Blissey.

"Why 61?" you ask, baffled and ignorant of basic gym mechanics. Well, my cynic friend, assuming a gym is full, every trainer in it can remote feed each Pokemon only 10 times within a 30-minute cooldown capping the limit. That totals 60 GRBs to be used within 30 minutes. So, when attacking a gym, you have basically that amount of time to completely drain the defenders of their respective 10 golden razzes in order to kick each defending Pokemon back to Lavender Town. This can be done with the vast majority of species, while some can drag their battles long enough that the 30-minute cooldown is over before all trainers reach their cap and they can start over.

So no, defenders are not irrelevant, Mr. Lazy Answers. The list is very short tho

The number of battles you need to do is (10*2*number of feeders)-1, assuming they always feed at 1/3rd motivation. -1 because the timer starts from the first berry fed, meaning the first feeder only gets to feed 9 times during the 30 minutes. This gives 119 battles against the full 6 feeders.

Greetings Mr. Lazy Reading! As you can see with minimal reading effort the berry feeding part of my reply was included in a paragraph about my PERSONAL playstyle when Attacking Gyms.

"B-b-but why does the defender have nothing to do with berry feeding for you?" you stutter, clearly shaken now that you realize you haven't spent any time at all developing your reading comprehension skill lately. Well, my smart ass friend, even though I live in the suburbs, there is usually another gym I can reach in 3 minutes (car) or 10-15 minutes (on foot). I personally give up after the second golden berry and hit another gym, cause what I mostly like about PoGo is walking around, not tapping my attacks for 20 minutes while someone is feeding their Pokemon from his sofa.

However what you said is very true for a stubborn player who wishes to win against the sofa berry feeder, or simply for a player with very few gyms in his vicinity who clearly has limited options when choosing which gym to attack. Your knowledge of game mechanics is excellent, I'll give you that.

So yeah, defenders can be irrelevant for some people, you should respect each trainer's playstyle and read more carefully before mocking others for sharing their opinion in a Q&A section.

Weak against fighting + annoying:

Gardevoir's a worse defender than it, togekiss can at least hurt metagross with hidden power

Gardevoir is frail af. Have you ever fought one in a gym? Goes down in seconds. You don't even have to use MM Metagross

I have never seen a gardevoir get a shadow ball off, its bulk is nonexistent, it can only stand up to machamp because that double fighting resistance, but even that only goes so far, at low enough motivation (after a loss or so) the champ can beat it easy.

So you have never fought a maxed high motivation Gardevoir before. It won't die to a single MM so it will generally fire a charge move. SB is of course slow as a glacier so it's not exactly the most threatening one, but it will hurt Metagross if it connects.

Sorry, almost the best right now.
