One of the best raid bosses?
Seeing as Giratina's likely going to be leaving in a little over a week, its actually been a pretty good raid boss to have.
Oh dont get me wrong, Giratina's not a good pokemon, but thats exactly why its been such a great tier 5.
It's not a difficult trio, most of us are stocked on dragons and SB mewtwo as well as being fresh off mewtwo month a ton of high level mewtwo counters we used and powered up for those raids so not much resources was needed to be spent or resources that were spent would be on something like rayquaza or the dragons, things we would have powered up for gen 4 eventually, as well as shortly after it came out we got lick gengar, so we're easily able to amass RC to feed our rayquaza and current legendaries as well as stocking up for any of the new comers like dialga and palkia, and its dragon typing lends itself to easily completing the "catch a dragon" research most tend to struggle with
Having a break from a good legendary lets players feel more free to raid the lower tiers, like what happened with the regi's, most of us wouldn't mind pass up a giratina to do another machamp or tyranitar, not needing to spend premium passes like what some would do if say Rayquaza or Kyogre was the tier 5
I knew a lot of people who came back to playing GO, this also lets us more experienced players help friends who are either newer or returning players get set up with fantastic raid bosses like Machamp and Tyranitar, research encoutners like dratini and luckies if they are a returning player.
Giratina might not be the best pokemon for use, but its certainly been a pretty good legendary raid boss for us all around.

I suspect that will be the thing for a later event. We have Origin Pulse and Precipice Blades in the game master (unused), and I speculate that Niantic is pondering how to let players have those in limited ways that don't reward the obsessive players with a dozen of them, but still allow casual players to have a few. My guess is that they will use some currently unknown mechanism to allow that to happen.
I don't know if players require a "break" from legendaries. As you said yourself, tier 5 raids are the best means to get RC and pump up legendaries or any other mon. If a player can tackle a tier 5 raid, they likely will.
It's more a question of whether or not a player has access to a large enough and coordinated community to tackle tier 5s. Unfortunately, this novelty doesn't exist for many players.
For players that are part of a large enough community, the question is simply whether or not they will purchase extra raid passes.
Giratina is a dragon too, and Latias was just as uninspiring for meta use. Crappy dragons suck too.
I agree with the OP - it's been a nice month. I liked the Halloween event, the special research, the candy and stardust rewards, the Adventure Sync, the lack of pressure to buy passes/boxes for the legendary raid boss. Hell, even a less than relevant featured mon for Community Day was nice thanks to the rewards. So really, I don't understand the sour comments around this.
You are correct in stating that lack of interest in Giratina has forced us to look for lower level raids. However, the circumstance is that basically every available raid is underwhelming.
Lvl 1 raids are full of useless fodder other than shinx, lvl 2 has equally useless fodder other than kirlia, which itself has been around for so long that it doesnt appeal anymore.
Lvl 3 raids have useless mons like granbull, sharpedo, and non-legacy gengar. Machamp is the only one worth doing to help newer players.
Lvl 4 raids basically dont spawn at all, and when they do, it ends up being a houndoom. Why is houndoom in raids in the first place? And why is there 5 potential bosses in the lvl 4 pool? The chances of getting something interesting like a Tyranitar or togetic is virtually none.
Overall, the lack of interesting bosses and the useless pokemon presented has made this raid cycle one of the worst to have occured.
I beat Giratina 35+ times, I’ve seen Togetic and Tyranitar under 5 times combined. Using gym coin passes and free daily pass. I’m fine raking in almost worthless candy, but I think Latios AND Latias were more challenging (thus weirdly interesting) bc the boss might have Outrage. Giratina is cut and dry+straightforward.
I like it, my free pass is now worth it.
When Giratina show up, i just need 1 more decent trainer to trio it, and ussually 1-3 trainer show up so a new trainer in their level 20ish can also get a good reward and a chance to catch it (they get less premium ball obviously).
Since Giratina become a raid boss, i only use some premium pass at the beginning for it. After that i only use a premium pass on duoing Alolan Marowak in cloudy weather.
I hope Dialga will be next, that typing is interesting. Or Kyogre to come back, wanna battle the Blizzard one with my small group of trainers in my area and they are not hardcore trainers.
Should be fun raiding one of them.
