How is the shiny hunt going?
I've checked about 200 ponyta and 150 cubone since the boosted shiny rate release and have found 2 ponyta and 3 cubone. I'm guessing the rate is probably closer to 1/40 or 1/100 than 1/20. One of my friends is at about the same checked as I am with 2 of each.

Having a standard 8-5 sucks for these short, spur of the moment events. For the 24 hour Day of the Girl event I literally never got a chance to shiny hunt between work and IRL obligations that evening. I did manage a shiny Luvdisc from checking one randomly during that event though so I can't complain too much.
If this is a 48 hour event then that only leaves me my lunch break to try and find one, which likely won't happen since my job is in a pretty spawn-absent area. Until next time I suppose.
Completely agree! I’m so sick of getting hosed by niandick. Did 23 gengar raids Saturday and 0 shiny (after reading on reddit that some guy got 8 shinys out of 10 raids), then this comes along and I thought maybe, just maybe, niandick will be nice for once since EVERYONE seems to be getting these (my son has 3 ponyta and 2 cubone with out barely having to try) and no, OF COURSE I get screwed AGAIN!! I can’t believe niandick is totally okay with letting some people who barely try and don’t spend money and give them everything while completely “giving the middle finger” to all of us loyal customers who go out for a whole day or 2 (I really want that shiny ponyta) for nothing. It’s especially unfair how nice they are to casual/new players (and I do understand that to a certain extent, but they waaaaaaay over-do it) because there wasn’t even shinys or raid bosses or stuff like that before I was lvl 40 (been lvl 40 for a long time, was one of the first in my city), so we never got the “beginner luck” on stuff like that cuz there simply wasn’t anything to have beginner luck with. Wish they’d give some love to their players who ACTUALLY go out and play and spend money versus continually “sucking up” to the new guy... Can you tell I’m a bit (extremely) bitter?? Lol
TL, DR? Haha; I’m just complaining about how unbalanced the shiny odds are. We should all have the same odds whether it be 1/50 or 1/500! If they’re going to make it near impossible for some, make it near impossible for everyone. Easy for some, easy for everyone.
The people who thumbs downed me are probably the casual-slightly above casual players who have no grasp of how frustrating it is to hear about how little effort y’all give and get everything (like those guys who say “I think it’s like 1 in 40 to 1 in 100” or whatever when I checked about 500 combined ponytas and cubones and didn’t get a single one after not getting a single shiny gengar out of 23 raids) when those of us who actually put in the effort and money get zilch
I get you being mad about bad RNG but you don't need to be salty to the players with better RNG than you. Before this event my friend was on a 3 month stretch with no shiny from anything except community days. Find a friend who gets lucky when you don't to trade. I've got names on 4 of the shinies I got, 2 of which I got in the last 5 minutes of the event.
Clearly you can’t read (or a lot of people on here it seems...) cuz THAT’S NOT WHAT I SAID. If you’re not going to actually read what I wrote, then don’t respond, especially with ignorant, rude/personal, false comments, like you did (what you said said more about you if anything). It’s a load of crap that different people have different shiny odds (and I’m never on the winning end here), that’s the problem. Everyone should have the same odds, and that’s not the case. DID YOU READ THAT THIS TIME?! 😳 I swear, there’s a solid portion of people on here that are either illiterate or incompetent...
PS, I try not to be rude to other players and I’m only being rude with you because you were rude yourself. I made myself clear multiple times and you STILL missed it and decided to be an ignoramous.. I hadn’t cussed anybody out (and still haven’t) or been rude directly (besides niandick, and this comment). Just sayin..
Don't want to be a sourpuss but I wish the ponies and cave-squirrels (or whatever cubone is supposed to be) would go away! I am not the biggest fan of shinies. To answer your question, with two accounts (my son and I) have checked well over a hundred of each and have only 2 shiny cubones to show for it, With Pinsir we had a combined 12 shinies with fewer attempts.
I've gotten one shiny Cubone and zero shiny Ponytas. I don't know how many I've caught or checked, but it's a lot.
I don't know that the shiny frequency rate is any higher than it normally is for wild pokemon; I think it's just that there are so many Ponytas and Cubones around that people are able to find shinies more often. It seems similar to when shiny Shellder, Kabuto, Poochyena, etc. were released...normal shiny rate, but chances boosted by sheer number of spawns. Pinsir, on the other hand, seemed to be spawning shinies at something resembling a Community Day rate.
I've checked hundreds of Cubone and Ponyta and have only one Cubone Shiny. Similar with Pinsir, checked hundreds and got only one shiny. What is strange is how some people got over 5 shinies of one kind. If the odds are 1/40 the odds of getting 5 are tiny. It seems perhaps that the shiny rate is boosted right at the start of the event?
I'm pretty sure Pinsirs were spawning shinies at a much higher rate. I got 6 or 7, and I didn't catch or check as many as I have of Cubone and Ponyta. On two occasions, the same Pinsir was shiny for me and someone else I was playing with.
During the rock event, when they released shiny Kabuto and Omanyte, I checked many, and only got one shiny Kabuto. When they released shiny Shellder for the water event, I got two shinies out of wll over 100 checked. I think the shiny rate is still the same for those pokemon, but those mons aren't spawning at the frequency they were during those events, so the shinies are scarcer.
Pinsir was different. It seemed, for me and everyone else I talked to, to be spawning at something like a Community Day rate. Off the top of my head, Roselia is the only other mon I can think of that briefly spawned shinies at a much higher rate for a few days (outside of Community Days).
