I'm guessing it'll have a "special" move. If so, most likely Shadow Claw since so many people have asked for it's return. Wonder if they'll release Ghastly and Haunter shiny variants after...

I actually would prefer it to get Lick, but I know it’s a silly hope. With Lick it becomes swift enough to dodge even Confusion from powerful bosses.

I hope they give it shadow claw.

EDIT: Never mind, they're giving it psychic...

When you spin Photo Discs at Gyms during the event, you'll be able to receive up to five free Raid Passes. Plus, all Gengar that are caught during those hours will know the Psychic-type attack Psychic. Fighting-type opponents won't stand a chance against a Gengar with telekinetic power!

Every day. We stray further from Arceus.

EDIT: No, I'm not talking about random comments, I'm talking about the fact that they taught ANOTHER strong Pokemon a useless movepool, and the fact that some Pokemon know useless moves during specific events (Draco Meteor Dragonite, anyone?), (in the Gen 4 era, basically) I mean, just think about it: First, we had Deoxys, which did at least make sense it got bad moves. I mean 345 base attack (*414* with the Attack Forme), what else can I say??? But when dataminers invaded some Gen 4 Pokemon, most Legendaries knew *terrible* moves, even with... not so good stats. I mean, Giratina. Shadow Claw? Yes. Shadow Sneak??? J-Just... WHY??? That move belongs to pre-evolved Pokemon, NOT A LEGENDARY! Not only that, but they nerfed some Pokemon that could've been HUGE performers, like Dialga, Regigigas, Heatran, Togekiss, etc.

Truthfully I feel like I'm kind of overreacting a bit, but still, this is just plain ridiculous. Fortunately, I'm sure they might give them at least decent moves, like how they gave Empoleon Waterfall. And from some questions/replies I've read, I think Niantic didn't want to make Gengar TOO powerful, kinda like when Zapdos got Thunder Shock during it's own event. Yeah, now that I think about it, I guess they don't want their creatures becoming absolute beasts. Probably for newcomers, anyway.

I will be evolving my hundo Haunter between minutes 2 and 3 to see what happens.

I'm not sure if they've EVER screwed up this hard before.

The best part is Shadow Ball AND Sludge Bomb are still higher-DPS moves against Machamp than Psychic is.

Ghost Types could already stand a chance against Fighting-Types, anyway, so... were they wanting to give us more... defensive Gengars?

And basically, teaching Gengar Psychic; that is just a stupid idea. Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb can do the jobs, so was Psychic intended for actually do super effective damage?

>shiny Gengar is all but indistinguishable from normal Gengar
>special move is PSYCHIC of all things

What an absolute ruse. The funniest part is I ain't even mad, I can appreciate trolling of this magnitude. There's no way they didn't know Shadow Claw was in high demand and they reward us with a god-awful charge move that doesn't even have STAB.

10/10 event Niantic, would get baited again. Not gonna spend money on it tho.

EDIT: On another hand, they probably wanted to avoid a TS Zapdos issue where the best Gengar suddenly becomes a P2W scenario once the 5 freebies have been exhausted.

How is it P2W if you literally get 5 free ones? 6 if you don't raid the day before? Why do you need more than 6? This community is so entitled. Not a shot at you personally, but people COULD just be happy with the 5 to 6 free special move pokemon without going overboard with their wallets.

In case it takes more than those 5 or 6 to find a shiny? Nobody needed more than 5 or 6 TS Zapdos yet the fact that it was a limited window raid exclusive that was better than all versions of it made it P2W. Imagine managing to not catch even one after 5 or 6 raids, what then?

I don't plan to bust the wallet open for this but I'm just saying that's how it's perceived.

I guess it's an unpopular opinion, but at that point I just say it wasn't meant to be and accept a perfectly usable mon with a better attack. Then again I guess shinies aren't my end all be all for this game.

I actually think of shiny as a negative. It does nothing positive for me and it makes trades expensive.

This is going to be a bit of a bust. I did 2025 of the other community day raids mostly for the candy. There is no such need for Gengar as I started the day with 2,395 ghastly candy and will likely be closer to 3,000 before the Halloween event ends. What is the motivation to get 20 of these?

I know it’s cool to be all Meta and dump on any thing that isn’t best of its type for all generations or doesn’t have access to its best moves and all... But if you aren’t excited about 5 free raid passes for what should be an interesting battle ( if they bump it up to tier 4 or 5 ) and a chance to catch shiny version of an Iconic Pokémon, WTF are you even playing this game for much less wasting your time on a Pokémon website ???
