Lucky Larvitar

So I was doing some traded with a friend and got a lucky 98% larvitar, its level 8. Is it worth powering up, or using a raid caught Tyranitar with 87%?

only got 198 candies with a few candy trades for larvitar candy arranged.

If you have the resources needed... Why not? Do you have a full army of tytars already?

In all honestly, its actually my second/third dark one

You could wait to see the meta changes. But someday I'd power it up for sure. It's almost perfect and there's a low dust cost.

Does the "Powering up" include Evolving it as well, meaning you only have 75 candies to Power it up? If you've already evolved it and you just need to Power it up right now, then it's worth it. If you have to evolve it first, you probably won't be able to get it much past level 26, but if you power up the 87%, you can get at least to Level 37. (or higher, if the 87% is already Level 25)

Tough choice.

If you can reliably do Tyranitar raids - and can reliably catch the Raid Boss - then I would evolve and power up the Lucky. If you are going to be getting candies via trading and walking, I would power up the 87%.

Theres not too many tyrantiar raids around, even with the 12 gyms im near, 90% of them are all mewtwo (Might sound good, but without shadow ball, and enough candy to max my SB ones, not much need for them).

Sounds horrible, actually - I only do Mewtwo raids now when there's a new player or three who are looking for help in a raid.

But yeah, in your situation I'd probably power up the Tyranitar rather than evolve and power up the Lucky.Then work on evolving and powering up the Lucky if it turns out that Tyranitar is going to still be quite as useful a Pokémon as it is now - Weaville and Honchkrow are coming out and might be viable Dark attackers, and wasn't there a Rock Pokémon (looks like a head-butting Dinosaur) that might be a better Rock attacker?
