Wich Pokemon do you think it will be the next encounter for weekly research breaktrough after Suicune?

Rock Throw Omastar!

Not sexy enough imo. Snorlax could get away with it, because I mean, look at him. Exudes sex appeal. But not enough people would get excited for RT Omastar, and anyway RT on its own isn't much good without Rock Slide.

I don't know man, Omastar has the tentacle game on his side ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Yes, in a very Ron Jeremy sort of way, I suppose.

1) This could be the window where we get Shadow Claw Gengar rereleased, limited to 5 per trainer by the format, although it's just after Halloween, not just before.

2) We could dive right into the weather trio, which would rock. Or we might get saddled with three months of Regis, one after another.
(Hint to Niantic - Maybe keep the Regis to a shorter time frame, serious players don't need 4-5 of each. Two weeks is long enough to get one for casual players.)

3) Chansey? Seems not so critical, given they were spawning occasionally during the latest Kanto event, but would be useful for new players.

4) Lugia or Ho-Oh, cause they are from Gen2, like the beasts, and because we haven't had them come back over and over until people are sick of them, ... oh, wait, never mind that.

5) Smeargle, finally? Doubt that, since they would probably want to make an event of that, not automatically hit everyone up with 4-5.

I suspect that all of my guesses are wrong, but one can speculate.

6) (edit) Saw below, someone suggested Latios and Latias. That's where my money is right now. I suspect they will want to save the shiny Groudon and Rayquaza for a big event.

Really? You must be the very first person that doesn't find Snorlax a cute and lovely Pokemon. Even someone like me whose favorite mons are cool looking ones like Charizard, Mewtwo or Rayquaza have Snorlax in the top 10 because of how cute it looks.

Unlikely. If Omastar doesn't learn RT in the main series we should consider its legacy moves as a mistake of the early days.

I reckon you're on the right track, in that it might not be a legendary that we get. Anyone's guess really, but I'd go for a high-demand legacy move mon. Maybe Niantic could even redo the C-Days by giving out third-stage evolutions which know the special move.

I expect them to only do so at least a year or two after the respective Community Days, as those valuable exclusive moves exist to make trainers grind more (and spend more real money) during Community Days.

Legacy Lapras!
Or legacy Dragonite

How about unnerfed Lapras. I still remember how my one powered Lapras at level 31 dropped from CP 2500+ to CP 2100. Really annoying.

Did it really matter though? When Vaporeon out-CP'd it with much less investment and Snorlax and Blissey were miles better as the bottom mons to stick into gyms.

If I recall correctly, Blissey wasn't released at the time Lapras was nerfed, and in the previous gym system being higher CP meant you'd be beaten later regardless of the actual defending performance.

I didn't have one by this point or pay attention to the meta that much but didn't Lapras only get nerfed because they held off on converting its stats initially?

Up

Yep.

https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon-stat-change

Niantic changed the formulas they use for converting base stats from the core games to PoGo. This change was implemented shortly after an event in Japan with increased Lapras spawns. So they delayed changing Lapras' stats for those people that had traveled to Japan for that event.

I hope they continue with legendaries. Latios and latias or the regi trio to get them out of the way for good. In my opinion there is no legacy pokemon interesting enough other than (perhaps) SC gengar.

A legacy move set on Omastar, Lapras, Gengar, Snorlax would motivate me more than the aforementioned legendary mons. But I understand this would not have enough support throughout the community.

Tbh, only mewtwo, rayquaza and SC gengar would motivate me. Anything else is not interesting to me.
Of the above, only Gengar has a minimal chance to be included in the next breakthrough box.

If it is not a legendary I think it would be a pokemon without any evolutions, just like Snorlax and legendaries. It would not make sense to release a second-stage or third-stage evolution in Research Breakthrough Encounter.

Probably also something rare.

So Lapras, Aerodactyl, Miltank or something like that. Or why not Mawile or Absol (only from raids) or Unown (!).

Yeah. I think the research breakthrough works well with rare pokemon with no evolutions.

Special moves on evolved pokemon can be saved for community day-like events.

The frenzy plant Venusaur or blast burn Charizard might get some attention, but those full evolution encounters couldn’t be shiny—that might put a wet towel on the possibilities.

Could be Lick or SC Gengar, doesn't miss Halloween by much. Lugia or Ho-Oh is another possibility, they've been released enough times in raids already.

EDIT: I also highly doubt RT Omastar or PB Chansey could be rereleased. Their movesets got changed because they can't learn those moves in the main series and Niantic has stuck like glue to that principle ever since. It may even be required of them by Nintendo considering how religiously they adhere to it.

Psybeam Chansey would be very close to the previous pattern.

Up

Psybeam Chansey was a mistake, literally. It was part of the first wave of legacy due to main series incompatibility.

I assume it will be a fairly rare single-stage Pokémon.
Legacy Lapras, Lugia, or Ho-Oh are all possibilities.

I’m missing the Eon Duo and Weather Trio so personally I hope for any of those, but we’ve yet to get Groudon or Rayquaza with shiny variants and if I remember correctly the Eon Duo have only been in raids once so that’s unlikely.

I would like Latios. If they are fine with third stage evolutions, why not Legacy Dragonite or even Smack Down Tyranitar.

Up

Probably Lugia or Ho-oh. Dont think it will be a legacy mon because gen 1 only had 3 legendaries that were normally obtainable, mew and mewtwo had special conditions, the special research and Ex raids respectively while gen II had the beasts and ho oh and lugia as standard raid legendaries. Other than that I think it might be a gen 3 legendary, but im thinking they'd stick with gen 2 pokemon as this is a johto celebration in the same vein as the 4 months prior to raikou were a kanto one

And seeing as SC Gengar's not October's event, I have a feeling we wont be getting any legacy moves with the possible ecveption of SD tyranitar, but even that I think is slim to none.

Dazzling Gleam Alakazam or Latios.

I'd really love DG Alakazam but it seems pretty unlikely. Most players probably wouldn't care about it.

Ice beam lapras?

Up

Bound to trigger some people, but it's probably the Regi trio if we're following the patterns of legendary trios. Legacy mons would be great too. I can think of a few that deserve to come back (Smack Down Ttar, Ice Beam Lapras, Rock Slide Omastar).
