Gyarados with Twister = annoying defender?
I was bored with constant bliss-lax combo in every gym so I decided to focus more on niche defenders (Clefable, Steelix, Crobat etc). Currently I am thinking about Gyarados with legacy Twister charge move (happen to have one - got it from a trade with decent IV 10/15/14). I remember that I fought one of those in the past and it was really painful. What do you think about this charge move? It looks good on paper and I believe it's spamable just like Body Slam on Snorlax. I am perfectly aware that Gyarados is not a good defender at first place but hey... It would be a pleasant (or in this case unpleasant) surprise for someone who will try to clear it with a dragon type attacker. Any thoughts?
P.S. its animation is sooooo cool :D.

Believe it or not I'm thinking about the same thing. Just TM'd my from Bite to Wf so that it hits harder and gains energy faster. Not sure how well it will perform but should annoy Machamps and Dragons a lot. But due to its double weakness to Electric, it won't bring too much trouble to careful gym battlers.
I actually just fought a Gyarados with Dragon Breath/Twister in a gym the other day. It did hardly any damage at all, though it wasn’t at full motivation (I think it was about 4/5 full though), and could have had bad IVs. It also wasn’t max level, if I remember correctly it had around 2100 CP.
Either way, pretty bad. It attacked fast, but didn’t do enough to make a dent in my attackers.
Well I was thinking about it but since Crunch is so common I decided to stay with Twister. It has smaller damage window than crunch and it is unique. According to Gamepress Gyarados is the only Pokémon in entire game, which can use Twister successfuly. Others are not fully evolved (Bagon, Shelgon) and have underwhelming stats to use this attack. Not to mention the fact that this is legacy move so you can't obtaint it whenever you want. Once changed it will probably never return. Too bad... I would like to see this move on o dragon like Salamance or Dragonite.
My memories of fighting against Gyarados in the old gym system:
Step 1: Cue up the Jolteon
Step 2: Hope it has Twister
Step 3: Laugh when Twister does almost nothing to my level 32/33 Jolteon.
Basically, I remember HP being terrible to go against because it's difficult to dodge and would almost knock out whatever I used to attack. Outrage/Dragon Pulse wasn't as bad, but was harder to predict. Twister was a joke and I always looked forward to fighting it.
All that said, the gym game has changed so much, that any 3 bar move is better in defense than a single bar move.
