Should I evolve my Poliwhirl into a Politoed or Poliwrath?

Got enough candy to evolve into one of the two, but wondering which one is the better choice.

Poliwhirl. It has niche usage in Raids like Ttar or Houndoom, as its pretty unique dual-type resists all Ttar/Houndoom moves.

Yes, my fault.

But the usage of Poliwrath depends on your play style. If you want to try to duo Tier 4 raids it may not be your top choice. Just go for Machamp and Hariyama. Poliwrath is only usable for duo when it's almost maxed. However if you're a casual player and just want to join a raid with a group of takers, Poliwrath around level 30 could serve as a bulky counter in back of your team.

Thought it also had to be cloudy for poliwrath to be tyrnatiar duo viable.

Assuming all first 5 counters are maxed Machamps, there will be some time saved. So a maxed Poliwrath could do the remaining job with a low risk to get swiped out, which often happens against IT/FB Ttar.

If the IV's are good and it could be useful for something then Poliwhirl, if just for your collection or if the IVs are bad or just meh then Politoed.

Also to get a useful Poliwrath you need the right move combination, namely Rock Smash/Dynamic Punch. RIP my trashed Poliwrath.

I assume they meant they transferred an old good IV Poliwrath because it got Mud Shot before TMs were a thing.

Definitely Poliwrath! Interesting typing and much more useful than Politoed. As others have said, it can be used in Tyranitar raids as a bulky fighting type by resisting everything Tyranitar can throw at it. If you’re into using unique teams like 6 different Pokémon it comes in handy there as well. Politoed is more defensively oriented, but unfortunately defense has no place in Pokémon GO if your name isn’t Blissey
