This surprises no one. Too bad Meganium's stats are too lackluster to make effective use of it.

EDIT: Guess this also sets the stage for future starter community days as well.

HC Crocodile and BB Fighting Chicken are said to be very powerful with their exclusive moves.

I think Sceptile with FP is also great. Not sure how Typhlosion performs with BB.

Typhlosion with BB is worse than Charizard with BB since Ember is the worst fire fast move by a fair margin.

Feraligatr and all gen 3 starters will become the top nonlegendaries of their type with the CD moves. This is a big deal.

Feraligatr will be a beast, as will the Gen 3 starters. Greninja and Primarina in Gens 6 and 7 should be pretty good too.

I'll have to wait a while, but I'm really looking forward to a maxed-out Swampert with Hydro Cannon. Then potentially mega down the road! Beast.

This getting confirmed is a huge deal. As long as Meganium gets the exact same FP as Venusaur, it's pretty safe to assume that all starters will get the same moves on their CDs. Which means HC Feraligatr will become the best non-legendary water DPS in January, FP Sceptile will become the grass DPS king in March, BB Blaziken will become the fire DPS king in May and HC Swampert will get almost Kyogre level water DPS in July.

At least it'll be more useful than it is now. If you have BB Charizards or FS/OH Flareons it's not interesting, but if for whatever reason you don't have those, BB Typhlosion will be an adequate fire attacker that's very easy to acquire a few of.

Well then BB Typhlosions should be very nice fire fillers for you from November's CD. Just evolve high level Cyndaquils and don't worry about their IVs or powering up because you know you'll replace them with BB Blazikens 6 months later.

All my Feraligatr has either Water Gun or Bite lol.

Sit tight on them. Niantic might make old CD moves available in the future. It may take a while, but they have a pretty big incentive to rerun them at some point.

I have a 100% blast burn charizard!! And a 98% for good measure.

Meganium and the fire gen 2 (can't spell its name and never liked the pokemon anyway) have no potential. Nor does Feraligator because theres too much water competition.

Gen 3 Pokemon are a different matter.

EDIT: Feraligatr will be straight up better than Gyarados and much easier to get a bunch of which makes it pretty relevant. Too bad it won't be able to pair HC with WG which would put it closer to Kyogre than Gyarados.

I think you're looking at Water Gun stats, not Waterfall. I made the same mistake when I evaluated Feraligatr the first time too. Waterfall puts its performance closer to Gyarados than it does to Kyogre.

I would argue that besides its CD it will be as hard to get as Magicarp. I would think Feraligatr and Gyarodos would have different situations to shine. Towards raid boss like Golem or Rhydon which have Rock/Ground double type, Gyarodos resists Ground while vulnerable to Rock. Feraligatr takes neutral damage from both types. So for boss with Rock type moves we should go with Feraligatr and leave Ground type to Gyarodos. Introduction of HC Feraligatr will just leave us more room to form optimal Water raiding team.

I'd argue that Feraligatr is much harder to evolve outside of its CD than Gyarados, but that's besides the point, the CD makes them super easy to get.

You are correct about the resistances, against ground Gyarados's extra bulk will be very valuable and it also has the advantage of being neutral to grass-type coverage moves if your target happens to have those.

It will be just enough to make him not a complete joke. He will be on par with Bullet seed/seed bomb eggy against water types.
