How do you handle your gifts? I've been waiting to open gifts until I have space for eggs, but now I am so tired of the Alolan eggs that I'd almost prefer not to get them. Is there any advantage to hatching the gift eggs over other eggs? I'm in Manhattan so getting eggs from pokestops is not at all difficult, except I may get 2k eggs.
Also, I wasn't sure if you open a gift when you have max eggs, do you get other items in compensation or just miss out on the Gift Egg?
I used to make sure I had space for eggs simply because I've been trying to hatch an Alolan Vulpix. After finally getting one last week after who knows how many eggs I try to keep space for two 7k eggs, but don't fret if I end up missing out.
I don't know what's worse, an endless sea of 7k eggs with the small hatch pool they have or getting an endless sea of 5k eggs with a much more massive pool yet somehow only hatching Nosepass and Carvanha.
After hatching 4 A-Vulpix, my motivation to hatch 7k eggs is just to get a good A-geodude so that I can prepare for Moltres day. I guess my luck has been absorbed by those adorable silver foxes that so far I haven't got a single good A-geodude. So each time I would get a single 7k egg and try my luck.
Well my team seems strong enough on one side, however Moltres duo also relies on my duo-partner (my wife)'s team. Her team is much weaker than mine so I'd like to make sure that I can either make more damage or last longer for her to rejoin. That's why I want a A-Golem in my team because of its double resistance to SA Moltres.
Similarly. I used to favour space for alolan, but now that I already have all of them changed strategy.
I currently keep one slot for alolan. Only for long distance eggs for pilot badge, until I get gold. Rest of slots for normal eggs.
Hatching strategy is based on free incubator only. I keep 10k eggs for events (double stardust, candy or XP). Get rid of 5k eggs as soon as possible. When I don't have 5k, I incubate 2k.
During this stardust event I hatch all 10k at once with a star piece on. Then 2k on free incubator until I fill again. If I fill with 5k I use incubators to collect more until I manage to get a few 10k and start over again.
Note that 7k are the poorest ratio of stardust per Km. So, I would try to avoid them during stardust events.
Opening gifts with no space just miss the egg. You get the same items.
The 7ks had their moment, but they're currently unappealing. Wouldn't so bad if the contents were a little more meta relevant, but the best of the bunch is easily Geodude and even then they're hardly essential.
I live in a fairly pokestop-rich environment so the contents of gifts in general aren't really of interest, except perhaps for the small amount of stardust. Gifts, to me, are basically a means to increase my friend levels, so I normally reserve opening them at the very end of the day when my egg storage is normally already full.
I'm not sure why you wouldn't want 2k eggs, they have the best dust/km ratio out of all eggs and they can hatch Togepi.
I open my gifts towards the evening and try to make sure I have no egg slots free. I completed both trading medals within the first month and the chance for a good IV A-Vulpix is so small that it's not worth trying for. If I can't avoid getting a gift egg, I'll try to get one with distance.
As for the item amounts, it seems to me that the egg is almost always the third item, but you can get a third item that's not an egg as well. I think you get more items/dust out of gifts if the egg can't occupy any of the slots.
