Failed Tyranitar Duo. Need advice.

A friend and I attempted a duo today in clear weather. Tyranitar had SE and I don't know that the quick move was (I suspect iron tail but I'm not quite sure). My team (shown below) is better than his. Mine are at level 40, 36.5, and 4x level 36 all 93 and above. His team was 5 machamp around 2500-2600 and a high level Groudon. Also, he said his phone was slow so he wasn't able to relobby very quickly. Both of us used the empty battle party trick all times. Here are our attempts:

1. He starts at 170. After his 5th machamp, he quits to heal. It takes a painful amount of time. He makes it back in, I faint out, rejoin with about 15 seconds left and we lose.

2. He TMs a couple of his CC machamps to DP so they all have DP. Still starts at 170. I have a faster phone so I quit early to heal and rejoin. He still fainted out. Closer, but still lose.

3. I swap out a machamp for a maxed 100 Breloom. He starts at 178. We're doing well. Yellow at 102. He tried to quit after his best 2 machamps fainted to heal, but His relobby time killed us I think. Then I fainted out, healed and accidentally went in with my auto selected Groudon. We lose.

4. Same strategy. Boss had 1 hp left and we lost. Times up.

Questions:

1. If my team were powered up more, would I have survived to the end?

2. Did the Breloom make much difference, since I was still fainting out with my 6 machamp team?

4. Any other advice for the future?

Thanks all!

Edit: we are ultra friends so we were getting damage bonuses there

My opinion is that if relobby is killing you guys, try one or two Hariyama at the end of the team. It's more bulky and deals pretty good damage and also resists SE. I don't think it's necessary to relobby.

And I would recommend your friend not using Groudon. Even if it has ground type fast move it's not double effective against Ttar. I would rather use a double Fight Poliwrath if not having enough Hariyama, since it resists all Ttar's move.

My wife and I duoed Tyranitar 3 times. 2 wins 1 fail, and the 1 fail is with IT+FB in clear weather. My team is better, with 1 maxed Machamp iv 98 and 2 more 2700+ machamp with good ivs leading the team; 2 Hariyama at lv 35, iv 90+; 1 Poliwrath at the end, iv 96 maxed out. All Machamps and Hariyama are Ct+DP and Poliwrath has RS+DP. My wife's team has one Breloom lv 31 leads, 3 machamps around lv 36, 1 Hariyama and 1 Poliwrath around lv 35. The first successful duo was in the Cloudy weather. We had even worse team-up but still won with 30s left. Failed on 2nd because of the weather and moveset of the boss. 3rd time still in clear weather but boss has crunch so we won with a few seconds left without any rejoining. Hope it helps.

I'm sure if it were cloudy we would have had at least 30 seconds left. I'll have to try with a Hariyama at the end next time.

I agree with this. I think that re-lobby on a slow phone is what is killing you. Your team's level look high enough to do the trick.
I have successfully used 2 teams of 4 Machamp + 2 hariyama with an ultra friend to raid B/SE in partly cloudy. Mine are all DP but my friend has a couple of CC and lower level mons and still worked.

Shouldn't have gone in with CC any way in my opinion.

Have all your Machamp hit the last breakpoint? Even if they're 93, that could mean 12/15/15, which means they're missing the last one.

My whole team is C/DP. 5 have 15 attack and one has 14 attack, but that's the one at level 36.5. After our first attempt, his whole team of fighters had DP.

You need to focus on not re-entering. Like others have said, it’s better using Hariyama at the end. Only use Counter/Dynamic Punch. All other moves will not work. If either are going to faint, have a team 2 ready, do not heal.

The only one I’ve had trouble on is Fireblast with sunny weather boost. It will OHKO a decent Machamp.

But I only use teams of 5 maxed machamp and one max Hariyama. Seems to do the job.

I’m only level 35 and can reliably duo Tyranitar with my level 40 friend. I’d recommend using all Machamps over Groudon for sure, with Hariyama as an anchor. I’m also a fan of Blaziken, double fighting moves while resisting iron tail and Fire Blast, stone edge hurts though.

It sounds like him quitting to heal is the issue, so I’d say he should be using bulkier Pokémon, throw in a few Hariyama instead of Groudon

All the main points have already been covered. Dynamic Punch should be the only charge move in play, make sure you're actually hitting the last Counter breakpoint, avoid the relobby at all costs, use Hariyamas at the end for bulk. Your friend might want to use one more Hariyama than you if his phone is super slow.

My gf and I are ultra friends, our machamp teams aren't nearly as strong as yours, and we can duo reliably...

Not sure what gives. Your relobby time must just be the difference maker. Although having 6 DP users is mandatory. We generally kill without needing to relobby. His Groudon appears to be the weak link.
