Why Houndoom runs 3rd popular today?

i am not sure why there are so many Houndours running around but but dark Houndoom is solid vs Mewtew

Is there an EX raid coming up? I'm guessing people are finding bunches of weather boosted Houndour with the Johto event going on.

EDIT: lol and then I just found a L34 Houndour with a/d/s of 14/10/15 right as my lunch break ended. Would have made an amazing shiny.

They're so popular because they're Gen 2 and a Gen 2 event is going on.

Both Tyranitar and Houndoom are popular today and my guess is the upcoming ex raid this Saturday. Tyranitar is rare to get if you don't raid much. So the easier option is Houndoom. They are everywhere and trading with friends you can easily get them lucky and power them up cheap.

Maybe because the shiny and because hourdour's everywhere (that and its a decent dark attacker if you dont have access to a steady supply of tyranitar raids for candy and the pokemon itself)

...because Houndour is widely available right now and Houndoom is one of the top dark types. Most of the other really common gen 2 stuff right now isn't terribly useful (Sunkern, Hoppip, Slugma, Aipom, etc)

And prior to the Johto event, I would see a Houndour maybe once every other month (unless there was a nest)
