Powering up M2 vs Raikou

Just got invited to my first ex-raid next week. I have enough RC to power up either the M2 or a Raikou from field research this month, but not enough RC for both. What's a better investment for the future?

Definitely M2. Raikou is great, but sadly, wont have more use in near future, unless Suicune return with shiny form or some lower tiers raids.

The mewtwo, Raikou's only real match ups (for legendaries) are Suicune and Kyogre with blizzard, and seeing as Kyogre's come and gone with the water festival, and Alolan exeggecutor and FP Venasaur are now in the game, it wont be needed for suicune. For gyms, it does well agaisnt gyarados, but thats because of a double weakness, jolteon can do the same job and isnt as costly. Mewtwo is the much better choice,

Raikou, if you haven't already powered one up is worth it. If you didn't know, it also does well against Thunder Kyogre, having 2nd highest TDO only to Alolan Eggy, who has horrendous DPS for low manning and trios. Even with Hydro Pump, it still shines as the highest DPS counter, even without a resistance. It also does well against Lugia, which will come back sooner or later. (Niantic seems to love doing that for some reason) Not to mention FP Venusaur is weak to Extrasensory, and was only obtainable via not being busy at work in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY. Also, there are quite a few bosses Raikou can handle readily as a top counter, namely Vaporeon, Aerodactyl, Cloyster, Lapras and Walerin.

Congrats on your first EX Pass! Wait until you actually get the Mewtwo; it may have terrible IVs or even run away.

How important is gym offence in your area? Raikou is a great generalist gym attacker.

Even with "terrible IVs" a M2 is probably still worth powering up though I would think. I don't raid that often with the current raid times (basically can only do weekends or days off) so this could be my only M2 for a while assuming I catch it.

My area's gym scene is very active but honestly there's nothing that gives me trouble, with a team of 4 high IV C/DP Machamps and 2 Dragonites as my generalists.

If you are unlikely to earn another EX Pass, a Mewtwo with bad IVs is certainly worth powering up.

That said, there are quite a few gym defenders (notably Gardevoir) that wall both Machamp and Dragonite.

Good luck! I was invited to my 3rd.

Congradulations on your first ex pass. To answer your question, save your resources to power up that Mewtwo. I waited a long time for my first pass and ended up maxing my first one, and 84%.

Do a little research on youtube on how to catch it. Will yoube raiding with PoGo friends? Try to keep the group on the smaller side and same team color if possible. Mewtwo can be beaten with 3, so if the trainers are good 5 or 6 should be enough. Smaller group and same team color group will give you more balls.

If you dont use the following method I suggest you practice on a raid boss. Hold down your finger and set the throw circle, about half size for a great throw will work. Lift your finger and after Mewtwo does his slashing animation throw your ball. I hope you get it. Please post after the raid and let us know how it went.
