Blaziken for Tangela Solo?

Hey everyone,

I am keen do to some Tangela soloing but don't have that many viable fire type Pokemon.

The best fire types I have so far are:
• Moltres 1863 (lvl.20 | HP15/AT14/DEF18)
• Blast burn Charizard 1674 (lvl 22 | HP13/AT15/DEF14)
• Flareon 2180 (lvl.27 | HP9/AT14/DEF14)

I'm looking to add more fire types to the team and have a level 23 Torchic (HP15/AT15/DEF14). I am tempted to evolve it to use on the team but am hesitant because part of me wants to hang on to for Torchic community day. Torchic isn't that common here but I have saved up around 300 candy for it (I have plenty of stardust as well).

What do you think? Should I take the plunge and evolve it up or try for something else?

I would wait for the solo guide on here and see if you have other options you weren't considering. Remember, Tangela is also weak to bug, poison, and flying (and ice but I think this is the worst option.) I have a Scizor and I'm also going to try a poison Victreebel and Muk.

This is the team I am going to try for Sludge Bomb Tangela.

You should put Muk last as Scizor deals noticeably better DPS. Good luck on the solo attempt!

Yeah, I was thinking that too. The only issue is I hate a single bar charge move in the last slot if you have a time crunch. I would rather have the chance to get off 2 XS rather than risking not getting to Muk's charge move.

I understand that preference very well but the Muk is a big liability unless the weather is cloudy. Scizor just about keeps you even with the clock, Muk is actively losing you time. But try it out, maybe your front party gets you ahead enough that Muk as second last is ok.

I'd suggest trading with someone for a lesser Torchic - maybe one that's a higher level - instead of evolving that one. It's too good to evolve just for Tangela solo raids when you might get an awesome move on a Community Day.

Maybe you can get someone to trade you a Flareon or two?

I would also recommend against evolving the Torchic. It's so good you should sit tight on it until it gets a community day and you can hopefully evolve it with Blast Burn.

Looking at your other fire types, you're not even close to being able to solo Tangela, even in clear weather. The easiest way to get there would be to evolve a bunch of higher level Eevees into Flareons. EDIT: Or ask someone to trade them for you, higher level players may well be sitting on unnecessary extras.

Sorry for saying that but you dont stand a chance. It wont even be close. Keep your Torchic for the CD move.

Evolve high lvl 30+ eevees for flareons for easy fire damage. Go for high cp/level regardless of ivs.
In the end even at worst they would perform better than perfect 20s
Torchic is better for community day. That Blastburn Charizard is good power up candidate.

Thanks for the responses.

I think I will hold off on evolving Torchic for now and try to accumulate more candy for it while waiting for its eventual community day.

Also I got to clarify that I plan on powering up my Moltres, Charizard and Flareon to level 30 as I have plenty of SD. My main concern is finding some other mons to fill out the team. I think I'll do as others have suggested and go for some Flareons.

Some reference, here was my team for Tangela solo in sunny weather against solar beam. Won with 41 secs remaining, not one dodge. Most would hope for sunny and hope for solar beam but w/o dodging: surviving would become an issue. Might have been starting my last Charizard---2405 charizard has overheat. Flareon with some dodging seems good, this (vs SoB) seems one of the cases where Moltres is better than Entei

If you Can, use the boss team calculator on Calcy to see how close your current team can come before investing further.
