How difficult would Tangela be to solo?

Its weaknesses are mainly to the less powerful types.

I did a cloud boosted sludge bomb one today and boy it's ridiculous. It kept spamming sludge bomb 6 to 7 times at the end and nearly wiped out my whole team with little or no warning and it was also really hard to dodge. Scizor made it with around 8 seconds at the end.

My team is Blaziken, Flareon, Charizard (Blast Burn), Moltres, Rayquaza (W Flying) and Scizor.

Judging by pokebattler, challenging but not the hardest we've seen. A team of level 30 Flareons or BB Charizards should theoretically beat it without weather boost, but overall there are few viable counters, only 7 at level 40.

And with sunny weather, it should be a little easier and give a level 25 catch. I foresee myself doing a lot of sun-boosted Tangela and Piloswine in the next few weeks when there are no groups out for less interesting T5 raids.

Calcy gives me 107% in 180s with Flareon, BB Charizard and 2 dragons, no boost. Similar to Donphan in difficulty for my team.

If you are desperate for a tread-water filler pokemon, fast TM a normally dragon Rayquaza. I have a 3000 Moltres, 2810 Moltres, 3145 Entei; I think that's enough of a basis for my Tangela squad. Guess I have a 100% level 30 fire Blaziken, too.

Sludge bomb will probably be challenging. The grass moves less because of fire and flying resistance.

It's tangelable

Just did one earlier today. Took every fire type I had and barely beat him

In Cloudy weather when facing Sludge Bomb Tangela, maybe some top poison type mons like Muk could be good fillers?

Just check that Victreebel also has double poison moves and resists both Tangela's poison and grass type charge moves.

Hell yeah, I just checked and my L40 SC/SB Gengar can be TM'd to Sludge Bomb and it would be my 2nd best in neutral weather with 164s TTW, 147s if cloudy. I now stand a chance, as I lack fire legendaries, thank you!

You don't need fire legendaries! Flareon and Charizard are good enough. But Sludge Bomb Gengar should certainly be helpful if you can spare the TMs to swap and then swap back later.

In Cloudy weather, we get Gengar and Victreebel as viable counters starting from level 30, Muk and A-Muk from level 35 and Roselia and Crobat at level 40. Beedrill is also borderline viable at level 40.

Now I really wish I had a perfect Beedrill so I could justify maxing one for this purpose.

Is Articuno viable or is it a situation of doesn't hit hard enough?

Articuno is viable with weatherboost only. Ice-types in general have low DPS so they can generally only compete when the target is double weak to ice.

Others have already answered...tho sludge bomb is most likely the hardest, I can't imagine it is overly difficult if you have any of the good legendaries. I only got 1 shot and missed it with 4 seconds to go, but as you will see, my team is far from idea...
2318 cp Flareon FS/O
2835 cp Flareon FS/FT
2313 cp Charizard WA/FT
2263 cp Charizard FS/O
2810 cp Arcanine FF/FT
2749 cp Scizor FC/XS

This team nearly did it and that is without legendaries or burn blast. I will throw out there that I prefer flamethrower, as you can get that extra one off.
