Looks like the ultra bonus isnt Celebi
Seeing as celebi's going to be released worldwide on august 20th, with no relation to the Ultra Bonus, this opens the possibilities for what it could be, as most were assuming it would be Celebi.
I was originally thinking it could be a Lugia raid day, given its the trio master of the Birds, thinking they wouldn't make us need to unlock for the celebi research only to go through the rouble of getting it afterwards, and is a gen 2 pokemon. Personally I hope it is, I never got one any of the times it was out
What else do you think it could be if it isnt lugia, or do you also think it couldbe lugia?

YEs, but the same would happen with deoxys, yes for a while it would be nice to have deoxys instead of mewtwo as the boss, but they're both the same type and one has a lot less defense (yes that would make it easier to coordinate EX raids because you wouldn't need as many people, which is a plus). But at the very least with mewtwo EX raids, mewtwo is a strong force in the meta, compared to tyrantiar and machamp, it's been around since the start of raids and people arent burnt out of it because of how useful and relevant they are, Deoxys wouldn't really be able to have use, it would be more or less a collectors piece/dex filler (something most people dont like from tier 5's) because of just how frail it would be. You'd get the same result of gym locking, but once you get more than a few Deoxys, it will be the same as with mewtwo, only instead of getting a strong pokemon that is usable, you get Dexfiller
You don’t need a lot of people. There are guides to do it with 3. I’ve seen groups beat Mewtwo with only Alolan Raticate. With a full group you could use literally anything and be fine.
Also, I’ve yet to find anyone burnt out on Machamp and Tyranitar raids. There’s a special chat in my areas discord for people specifically hunting down Tyranitar. And what do you use to beat Tyranitar? Machamp. Gyms? Machamp. Regis? Machamp. Dialga? Machamp.
I'm aware mewtwo raids can be 3 man'd, and with full groups you can just use murkrow, but most places ive seen spend days planning out who goes at what times in what groups
The lack of burn out was what i was saying, no one is burnt out on them, they're relevant and reliably able to be gotten, but why is it people are saying people are getting mewtwo burnout when its the exact same situation? There are 2 meta relevant pokemon people aren't getting burn out on, but one is, when they've been around for the same amount of time. It doesnt make any sense
Yeah I haven’t really heard of anyone being burnt out on Mewtwo raids either. A few people in my group have been trading Mewtwo for Mewtwo to reroll IVs and hope for a lucky. People can get teams of each move set for different situations, plus it’s cool to see so many people gathered and see people catch their first one. I don’t think Mewtwo will be leaving any time soon.
It's funny that this glitch has NO emergency patch. This is a candidate for an emergency patch. I believe the next glitch will be if you feed a berry the game will crash and all pokemon that share a dex digit with that pokemon will be deleted from your account. for example if the pokemon is 100, all pokemon with 1 and 0 in their dex number digit will be deleted. Trust me, it will happen.
Traner level's irrelivent if you dont have the dust or the candy to power up anything new. When all you have is a team of tyrantiar with smack down and Gyarados with water fall/hydropump and one dragonite level 26.5, thats not an easy raid, unless you think you could win dealing double resistance or taking super effective damage while dealing neutral
I get that, but at this point I assume someone above level 30 has proper type counters even if they're underpowered. T2's don't exactly require things to be maxed to win.
Pray tell if that was your team, why on earth you'd use those Pokemon outside the Dragonite? Do you not have any ice types at all? Even Piloswine being weak to grass would be infinitely better than Gyarados or Tyranitar.
You assumed incorrectly. At that time, those are the only pokemon i had that are powered up above 2k CP (i have 3 latios, but all have full psychic or are solabeam) The only ice types i have are walrein or lapras with water moves or a jynx thats psychic (one had frost breath) and my articuno were all level 15and hadn't powered up any of the raid day ones. So all i had was high level things that weren't effective, or low level things that were, and one dragonite.
I went in thinking it it would be easy and it whipped the floor with me the first time, even with a powered up articuno with the raid day candy to 2.5k CP, still not an easy win
Actually I assumed correctly since you HAD multiple Articuno at your disposal. Despite not being powered up they are ideal type counters.
Fun sim I just ran using this site's GoBattleSim. Level 15 FB/IB Articuno has way higher DPS and TDO than a level 30 WF/HP Gyarados against a DT/DP A-Exeggutor. I don't want to sound like a dick but even considering Gyarados against something that doubly resists its water attacks was a dumbass idea.
It was something solar beam, no dragon moves
I never used the gyarados against it, only the tyranitar *(weather was partly cloudy btw). I could have guessed they have higher everything than the gyarados, but being that low leveled I doubted that the articuno would be able to win, and using them in that first time through when they were still that low level, they didnt do anything noticeable, so I powered the best one up (went dragonite, tyranitar, then articuno) because I timed out on the first try
Still not doing yourself any favors here.
Leading with your L26.5 Dragonite (assuming DT and either followed by DM/OR/HU) followed by three L15 Articuno with any move combination results on average upper 80% of the boss's health gone with roughly half the raid timer left. There are some outliers in the 70%'s where fewer charge moves were used. There are more outliers where those 4 could have finished the battle on their own.
And halfway through typing this I remembered you said they were from Articuno day (L20 minimum), not research breakthrough (L15), where victory with those four is guaranteed... God dammit dude, just why? Why do you almost deliberately make it harder on yourself?
I highly doubt it will be Lugia. Lugia just had a weekend release recently (not sure how that was a fluke like you said, I saw a ton of people out raiding all weekend. I myself did 18 raids on that Sunday). The majority of people probably wouldn’t be excited about it unless it had Aeroblast and then we’re in the same situation as Zapdos Day.
I could see it being Ho-Oh, or possibly Mewtwo. This is signaling the end of the Kanto-themed events that started with Mew’s release, so a Mewtwo day would be fitting. However, this isn’t very likely. EX raids are a source of income, so making them less appealing isn’t good for business. They could switch the EX raid boss but to who? Deoxys isn’t as iconic. There’s Arceus but Arceus is mythical and likely won’t be released until well into gen 4.
They could possibly use it as a way to release gen 4, or throw us all for a curve ball. Who knows?
The fluke release was around the latios/latias raids.
It makes the most sense as a raid day because lugia's a link between gen 1 and 2, being the master of the birds. Yes mewtwo would round out all of them, but it doens't have any connection to johto, and Ho-oh's linked with the beasts so it would likely follow their raid days (if they do them).
I agree with the mewtwo statement, it would be a bad choice to change it, Arceus is a mythical (and its type changing gimmick would also be a thing people would take issue with regardless of how they do it) and Deoxys isnt iconic like mewtwo
I really hope they dont do lugia, its be nice to see something else.
The "fluke" mentioned was for like a few hours after the first Lati (I think?) Lugia was showing up again. Go Fest weekend was intentional, that's time #3 or #4 if you count the previous fluke.
Remember when the EX system was first announced and people were pissed Mewtwo was locked behind that system? The more casual among those people may still not have a Mewtwo, and this would be a way to appease them. On the flip side about the icon status, putting a less iconic Pokemon behind the EX wall might not ruffle as many feathers.
I don't think it will be the Gen 4 release. Someone on here made a point that as a "bonus" it has to be something we could get by without in the case we didn't meet whatever goal they set to unlock it. Mewtwo day is technically something we could get by without. The release of an entire generation isn't.
Going to echo the prediction of Mewtwo Day. It will have been almost a full year with Mewtwo as the EX Raid boss, so it's an auspicious time to change the EX Raid boss. And it allows every player a great chance at catching a Mewtwo outside of the EX Raid.
If it's anything else, then I would hope that the Ultra Bonus would be something like having all the Regionals spawn everywhere in the world for a weekend. Lots of us aren't ever going to travel to other places (for many reasons; I don't have the money, for instance) and even with Trading, I'm months away from having enough Stardust to waste 20,000+/- stardust to get a Dex Entry. So having a 3 hour window for Regionals, where I could catch them and fill up my Dex, would be awesome. It's been 2 years - let the Gen 4+ Regionals be exclusive for the next 2 years and let us long-time players finally finish our Pokedex.
Which only works if any of my Ultra-Friends have those Pokémon for trading... which none do because we're a whole lot of working-class schlubs who MIGHT be able to get to Florida for a vacation, and so we might be able to trade Heracross.
But going to Europe? Asia? Africa? Australia and the South Pacific? South America? That's just not in the cards for most of us - the only guy I raided with regularly who actually does get to travel for work no longer lives in the same city due to that same company offering him a huge bonus to move to Vancouver, where his travel to Asia is cheaper. And he moved there months before Friendship and Trading came out.
Meaning that if I'm going to be trading for any of these Regionals, I'll be trading at the Max cost level when I run into someone who is willing to trade, and is likely only passing through. If I'm lucky, I might be able to wait 7 days to lower the cost to 16,000 by being Good Friends.
Maybe I'll get to a point where a Dex Entry is worth 16,000 to 20,000 Stardust, but I'm not there yet. So I would love a "Regionals available worldwide!" Community Day.
I've got a significant reserve of Dust - 485,000k - but why on Earth would I spend 16,000 - 20,000 of it just to trade for a Mr. Mime or a Kangaskhan? Maybe a Heracross would be worth trading for as it's actually a useful Pokemon, but the rest of the Regionals are Dex Fillers at best.
Gen 4 will be dropping in the near(ish) future, that Dust is going to be used up in very short order to power up actually useful Pokémon. I'm looking at needing 100,000 Stardust per useful Pokémon to power up on average. (got a few that are already Level 35, got a few that are Level 15 but IV 96-98 that I might consider) So right now I can power up 5 Pokémon, max.
There are far, far better ways for me to spend 20,000 Stardust than completing the Pokedex right now. Maybe when we're halfway through Gen 4, I've got the majority of my useful Pokémon powered up to applicable break points and I've got 1,000,000 Stardust sitting in my inventory I'll consider 20,000 a decent amount to trade to fill up my Dex.
Until then? I'd prefer a Community Day where we're getting nothing but Regionals. That's more useful and helpful to the majority of the player base than Chikorita day will be.
