Stardust and CTM investment

The Safest Bets for Gen 4 article indicates that the three investments that I have been holding back are actually safe:

A. Gengar with SC/DP (13/15/13), lucky, from level 21 to 30 for many tier 3 solos, notably Jynx and Gengar itself, but also Alolan Raichu and even Alakazam.
B. Snorlax with ZH/BS (14/13/15) from level 15 to 30 for gym defence.
C. Machamp with Ct/CC (15/15/14) from level 15 to 40 as my third maxed Machamp, mainly for attacking Normal-type tanks in gyms, but also for Tyranitar, Absol and Regi raids.

If I spend the 378k dust, I would have just under 1.2 million left. The Gengar and Machamp also need CTMs (I have 18) to be useful.

Although they are safe, I must also save dust and CTMs for my eventual Rhyperiors, Mamoswines, Togekisses, Electivires/Magnezones and of course, legendaries. In addition, I am seeking a 96+% Tyranitar and a 91+% Mewtwo.

Is the next stardust event likely to be in the first week of September? Any important considerations (including other credible speculation) that I overlooked?

I have two maxed 14a SC/ShB Gengar (neither were lucky). I use them quite often, although I needed my identical Poketrainer twin to successfully duo Alolan Marowak today. 40 and 35 got well into the red...but not enough. Lucky we later saw a boosted Tyranitar and got that one done.

Machamp very useful. However, also take the lucky Gengar to 35 or something

As long as you attack gyms, then Machamp is a solid investment. While taking down a gym I usually have to use 3-4 (depending on how many normals are there). Sure, you can use just 1 and heal it, but its much more comfortable to let them die and revive after you take the gym.
Gengar with SC is really fun to use in those tier 3 solos, I use mine every chance I can get.
With that 1m dust and the upcoming dust event, I think you can safely invest in those 2. Snorlax is not as important if you have Blisseys already, but if you like it then go ahead and power up...

For gym defense you should focus solely on Blissey and Chansey if you want to spend dust. Snorlax is hardly worth that investment. You cause more annoyance if you put another type in a gym that is SE against fighting instead.

Generally I don't think it's worthy investing in any gym defense. I always assume that if anyone attacks the gym, they will beat it. Practically every high level player has at least one decent Machamp and enough Potions for gyms. Save the dust for attackers.
