I think they'll patch the Berry thing soon
The reason I think they'll add it soon, and haven't done yet is mostly if they forced an update during 'event hours' as last resort is still learnable until 4PM EST/1PM pacific. I think most people would take issue with a forced update (or really any update anyways) during that time as it would cut into time that people potentially could be playing to get espeon.
Realistically, do I think an update being put out would actually cut into anyone's time playing for this event. No. Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I do hope they patch it soon (I cant get my raikou, and missed a snorlax yesterday because of it)

Thats why I think right after the eevee event ends (or freaking soon after) they're going to fix it, the main things affected from what ive seen are things like raikou and research encounters, which wont go away and an extra few hours wont really make a difference, while a bit of time taken off from the eevee event could be the difference betwen getting an espeon with LR and not. (Though theres some wild encounters its screwed over, like my snorlax yesterday)
It's when someone feeds Golden Razzberry to a maxxed out Blissey every 3 minutes to defend a gym for what is essentially an indefinite amount of time - until you run out of GR's, the attacker gives up or you decide that you're bored.
Or when you feed a berry to a Pokémon, then run away (either intentionally or by the game glitching), and after that you can't catch that Pokémon again because the screen literally won't display the Pokémon. So when you do it to a Research Reward Pokémon, you can't catch any more (except, potentially, new reward Pokémon immediately after you claim the reward).
I'm not sure which Berry bug is worse.
