Useless Legedaries Going forward?

the disappointment of Raikou has led me to ask this, but what legendaries going forward are going to be useless? This is strictly for raids, gym offense isnt important as any of my already powered up non legendary pokemon take blissey down with even neutral damage with no effort (and unlike raid bosses, gym defenders are rarely constant)

Being that gen IV's main legendaries are dragon types, and taking current/passed tier 4/3 raids into consideration the three birds (yes, even articuno, dialga and palkia arent weak to ice) and the beasts all seem like they wouldn't be worth powering up, mew and the yet to be added for the rest of us Celebi wont be making much impact, of course the Regi's arent going to be much use, and latias is just inferior latios, who already seems dicey because other dragon or psychic types that dont need RC or Rayquaza/Mewtwo.

That really just leaves the weather trio (both Groudon and Rayquaza are threatened by some gen IV pokemon, both by Garchomp, in Ray's case all the gen iv dragons, and groudon from Ryperior, and mamoswine so they're position's dicey) and Mewtwo.(with its threat being in the form of the gen IV dragons and garchomp as possible generalists, and Giratina in specialist Ghost match ups, though im not sure how STAB would match up against mewtwo's raw stats)

It seems like the only real safe bet for legendaries is just Kyogre, followed by mewtwo and depending on movesets of legendaries, the rest of the weather trio. As it seems few other raid bosses have legendaries other than these being supreme counters that nonlegendaries cant deal with

Anything I missed? And this very well could be made irrelivent if gen IV completely changes the raid bosses

Yes, I did over look that, and I am thankful for that being pointed out to me with exactly how crippling it can be. I said I was applying what I knew, and seeing what I over looked. However, type match ups are a bit of a different story.

I'm not sure where you saw that Raikou was not good for gym purposes or raiding but its gonna be one of your best bet for any electric type going forward for a long time.
I constantly see gyarados to switch to from blisseys/snorlax's where raikou is just perfect for it.
The OP has an elitist POV that should be ignored.

Edit for OP: Do you even bother looking at pokebattler stats? or are you just "winging it" seriously get real.

After reading your responses to others in this thread, I have some final thoughts. Here's the thing, Raikou has already been incredibly useful for anyone who caught one back during it's first go-round, as it was the best counter to both Suicune and Kyogre (which we saw twice), and a great counter to Ho-Oh (especially with solar beam) and Lugia (especially with hydro pump) during their return runs. Raikou's presence in the tier 5 meta has been incredible, and people got lots of use out of it. Thus, it was a worthwhile investment and nothing about it was remotely disappointing.

If you're just now getting your first one from research, then you might want to reconsider investing into it (unless you have a sizeable pile of RC), given that it's future usefulness may be more limited. Even then, we don't know what any of the tier 1-4 raids will be when Gen 4 drops, so Raikou might still shine against some of them. Even if Raikou doesn't end up with some raid bosses it can shine against, it still makes a fair generalist and an amazingly strong electric specialist for gym fights. Investing into your best one will not be a waste of resources.

Most importantly though, Raikou is a Mon that a lot of people have fun using. It looks cool, it's stats are solid, TS is fast and has excellent EPS, and WC is very powerful. At the end of the day, this is a game we play for fun, so powering up Mons you're going to have fun with is a no-brainer. I'm also on team Instinct, and I was fortunate enough to catch a perfect IV Zapdos when it was first available. I maxed it out, and still use it frequently. Zapdos got to be the electric king for all of a month where I live, as we got Raikou as a raid boss in September. Even then, I regret nothing. Zapdos is my guy, and I'll continue using him (even though he's not the best electric attacker out there) because I like him and have fun using him.

If you think Raikou is a disappointment going forward, you have every right to believe that. However, you're unlikely to convince many others of this (not unlike your attempts to convince people that Machamp is overrated or that Aggron is actually useful). Raikou is still going to be awesome going forward.

I want to say I'm not piling on the OP, but I'm totally piling on the OP.

Your attitude towards Raikou is ridiculous. It is THE premier electric in the game, and will continue to be so for a LONG, LONG while. YOU have NO clue as to what water and flying mons will be coming back into the raid scene, and you're dismissing the FACT that although often ill-advised, mons of those types are COMMONLY found in gyms. A trainer without a decent Raikou powered up is a BAD TRAINER at this point. This month's research box is a BLESSING to those who are lacking this VITAL piece to their team. Five chances to earn a decent one, and the opportunity to trade with a friend to get the runts of the liter LUCKY?

You're DELUSIONAL to even use the word "disappointment" in conjunction with this marvelous Pokemon.

The OP has a habit of hating on premier Pokemon. It was the same thing for ages with Machamp until fate handed him a 100% Machop because IVs apparently make or break top-tier Pokemon to him.

I admit I'd be pretty hard-pressed to power up a box Raikou but your point about luckies is definitely worth consideration. Regardless of level, Raikou already is a Pokemon worthy of however many rare candy you can feed it. If you can halve the only requirement that's a hindrance then suddenly powering one up becomes a no brainer.

Oh, GAWD, I remember that Machamp crap now LOL...

Yeah, barring a perfect, the box Raikous won't get much love from me, but I do know more than a few players that lacked one until now. I already have a pair powered up, and I'm always on the fence about a third. Getting a lucky with decent IV's would totally put me over the edge.

Apart from the Regis & Suicune, legendaries are certainly not a bad investment. Even if u've only powered up 1 of each, they are up there when compared to their non legendary counterparts in terms of raid usefulness. As it stands, soloing tier 3's, duoing tier 4's & shortmanning tier 5's is THE only real challenge we have in POGO. You need to be prepared for whatever raid bosses are thrown in, if not then you aren't maximizing your RC potential. Raikou may not be particularly relevant now, but I'm sure he will have more uses going forward. If you don't already have a good one, either trade or work on a research one.

It boggles my mind to see the wide sweeping generalizations being made in the original post and follow up comments when the premise is based on a very narrow assessment (No Gen4 legendary require electric).

Raikou is a powerful and useful Pokémon PERIOD.

It’s uses are many and can take many different forms. Even when it’s not the best choice it is still a top choice.

1) Generally: Moveset: Thunder shock is a high EPS low duration fast move great for dodging. Wild Charge is a powerful, best in type, 2-bar charge move that rivals some of the best 1-bar moves such as overheat, Solar Beam, Draco meteor with less wasted energy.

2) Gyms: one of the top generalists resisted only by electric, grass, and ground (dragon resistance mitigated by dual-flying typing) with only one weakness (ground). When assessing common defenders, raikou usually does nuetral damage or better and Gym defenders with resistance to electrical moves are typically weak, with the exception of Rhydon, Golem, eggy, and Venusaur while only half of those are super effective vs Raikou. The typical ground move found on defenders; earthquake; is one of the easiest moves in the game to dodge. This allows for roster flexibility without having to switch every matchup.

3) Raids: Super Effective vs Water types and flying types: Kyogre, Suicune, Lugia, Articuno, Moltres, Ho-Oh, Blastoise, Charizard, Feraligator, Poliwrath, Walrein, Lapras, Vaporeon, Aerodactyl, Scyther, Azumaril, Starmie, omastar And Sharpedo or about 1/3 of all T3+ raid bosses (80+% of which have returned as raid bosses at some point) - Raikou is the best or second best option for nearly every mon on the list except flying fire types. Uses include: many short trainer raids, Draft leagues, unique challenges, high TDO in larger raids, etc. Raid bosses will change on Aug 16th, counters (read: water types) for Regirock likely to fill T3/4 boss pool.

4) The future: the gym system was completely revamped before, the raid system was added, it’s not unrealistic to think some meta-changing features could easily propel “useless” mons to the fore, whether PvP, adding legends to gyms, squad limitations, etc.

Gym offence is not important? Maybe for you, which may be why you find Raikou a disappointment. Try taking down some gyms in Singapore and you may change your mind.
